Compagnie de Provence is a cosmetics brand that was established in 1990 by two French men, Pascal Bourelly and Philippe Boigeol. It started with the legendary cube soap that was popular in Marseille and they wanted to revive the love for it. They made the cube shaped soap and wrapped it in luxurious brown paper that was tied with hemp string and stamped with a wax seal. This gave it a modern but classical look and feel.
From there, further modification of the Marseille cube soap happened in 1999 when Compagnie de Provence decided to release a liquid soap version. It was made with vegetable oils and came in a glass bottle to stay in line with the sleek and modern lifestyle of today’s consumers.
