…and Wear Sunscreen – Skin Care

So it’s time to start putting on layers of sunscreen again with the sun getting hotter and the beaches and pools beckoning in order for the best skin care.
I’m not completely SPF free during winter, all my facial creams have SPF of around 15 but now the sun is a greater force and we need to respect her.

I am a little strange in that I have different lotions for different times. They all smell different and have various functions so I can wear the different ones when the mood takes me – yes I know I’m a little weird but bear with me.
So here’s a rundown of my favourite sunscreens and why.

Best for throwing in your handbag for those unexpected moments:
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Sun Defense Stick SPF50: This little beauty combines the legendary benefits of Eight Hour Cream with intense sun protection in a nifty little package. It’s perfect to protect your face from those intense rays with its powerful SPF 50, it glides on easily and invisibly, oil free, water and perspiration resistant

Best for using when at the pool or doing a lot of swimming
Neutrogena Wet Skin Spray SPF30: I love this product! I can spray it on just after swimming it goes on easily onto my wet skin. It’s waterproof but you should still top up after each swim to keep protected. It’s also sweat resistant and it sprays on easily.

Best for sitting under your make-up
Clarins UV Plus with an SPF of 40: This product is perfect as it is light and when you apply it to your face it leaves your skin all smooth with a slight matte texture which has no oily residue. It has a great little bottle that has a ball in it that when you shake it it mixes it all properly.

Perfect for summer days, bike rides and all those amazing summer outdoor activities
Tropitone Magic Block SPF 30+ Sunblock -Tutti Frutti: I bought this when I was still in high school and spent most summer weekends rowing in 40 Degree weather out on the river. There are two reasons I loved this sunblock…it smells amazing! It has a fab tutti frutti smell that kids will love (and silly girls like myself ) and it is a green lotion that once properly rubbed in disappears – this is perfect as it makes you run it in properly and makes it easy to achieve even application.

Makes you look sexy in a bikini and adds sparkle
Hawaiian Tropic – Shimmer Effect SPF 20: This is one of the few shimmer/sparkle sunblocks that aren’t overly shinny and make me feel like a disco ball. It has a subtle shimmer and gives the skin a summery glow. It also has a really nice faint coconut smell. Also, the shimmer doesn’t fade quickly like the others which is a big bonus for me, that and its waterproof.

There are natural sunblock products out there but they can be pricy and they are not waterproof.
They can smell nice and it’s great using natural ingredients that have no chemicals. These are hard to find but you should get them at a health store. I have used these in the past but once I find the one I like, I battle to find it again. Let me know of any good ones you can recommend.

Now after all that and my top fav’s I’ll give you, the shortened version, of the benefits of sunblock.
Most moisturises these days have a SPF factor in them, if yours doesn’t maybe look at one that does. The reason for moisturiser manufacturers do this now is because it helps prevent wrinkles, tightens skin that helps maintain a youthful appearance.

SPF moisturisers help keep your skim looking smooth and youthful while it also protects our skin from getting burnt and dry. We all know how bad the sun can be for our skin and the ever looming C word but we need to protect ourselves and the ones we love. We love the sun and the feeling on our skin but we can enjoy the many benefits and still keep safe.

Another great thing about sunblocks is that you can use it as an excuse to get a nice back massage from your partner/boyfriend/crush/etc…Just ask him/her to rub the sunblock on your back and tell them to rub it all in evenly – you will get a nice massage and an even sunblock coverage with top skin care.
