She smoothed the moist brown makeup creme onto her face. Gently and slowly she patted and patted, making sure she got to all the creases and folds. Lingering over a dark spot she patted some more, and like she was applying a second skin, the dark spot disappeared. Now she was only left with flawless, smooth skin…

Foundation is a product that can be really key to achieveing a flawless face, especially when your skin is having a bad day. The secret to using foundation correctly is finding the right shade and the right amount for you. After that it’s just getting the application technique right and voila, blemish and spot free skin.

First things first, finding the right shade of foundation. It is important that you know what you want to achieve with foundation (besides fabulous skin). So determine first if you have oily skin, dry skin or whether you have combination skin. This will enable you to choose a foundation that combats oiliness, dryness or whatever the case may be. So if you have oily skin, you would want to choose a foundation that is oil-free or  mattifying. If you have dr skin, you would go for a foundation that is hydrating or moisturizing. If you have combination skine, then  you’d have to first see if you’re more oily or more dry and take it from there.

You should really not be testing out foundation on any part of your body that is below the neck… so yes, put that hand away.  Next, your face has to be clean and free of any other foundation. Pick the colours that you think are closest to your natural skin tone, then simply apply a stroke of each to your cheek or our jaw line. The one that disappears is the one. You have to make sure that you determine this in a well-lit area.

Secondly, before choosing a foundation, you have to decide whether you want a foundation that provides full coverage, medium coverage or sheer coverage. If you still want to have that natural look going on after applying the foundation, go for a sheer foundation. If you are only trying to hide minor skin issued then pick a medium coverage foundation. Now if yoour skin has got major discoloration or other major issues that you want to hide, then go for a foundation that provides full coverage.

Then finally, applying foundation. Here it is very important to know what you are doing. You do not want to end up looking like you are wearing a mask!!!

Regardless of whether you choose to use a sponge, your fingers or a foundation brush, the key is applying dots of foundation to the problem
areas. Try not to apply foundation to you r entire face. Then all it boils down to is blending all the dots, whilst paying special attention to the jaw line and the hair line. You don’t want it to be obvious where the foundation ends. Then the secret to long lasting foundation: Setting it with a loose powder immediately after.

That’s pretty much all there is to it, finding the right shade of makeup for you!
