Have you heard about these “Doctor fish” that enjoy feasting on your dead skin under your feet? And while doing so they actually “giving you a pedicure”? It sounds really odd, doesn’t it? Let’s go more into detail about this fishy business and see what it’s all about!
The fish used in fish pedicures are typically called Doctor fish or Garra Rufa and they feed off your dead skin under your feet. Pretty gross to say but your feet are like a big buffet for the Doctor fish! They leave live skin alone because, without teeth, they can’t bite it off. But the good news is your feet will be smooth and free of dead skin or calluses leaving your skin renewed and soft.
Having a fish pedicure does not hurt either since Doctor fish don’t have teeth, they cannot puncture the live skin. But, the treatment does tickle quite a bit, however it’s not uncomfortable. In fact, in countries where fish pedicures are popular such as Turkey and Asian countries, people often soak in a full bath full of these fish!
So how long should your feet soak in the bath? Treatments range anywhere form 15 minutes to 30 minutes or even one hour. It’s all up to the person and how much dead skin they have under their feet. Most spas do a 15 to 30 minute treatment, then follow up with a foot massage and scrub and can finish off a normal pedicure.
Have your feet feeling rejuvenated and baby soft after these little Dr fish nibble away 🙂
