We welcome Back Pantene’s Dr Gray- answering your hair questions: Part 1

Pantene’s Dr John Gray chatted to the Beauty Bulletin Community, answering all they hair questions.

Beauty Bulletin were so excited to have the Pantene hair expert, Dr John Gray back again and chatting with our community about everything  they wanted to know about their hair.

He was warmly welcomed by all our ladies on the Pantene Chat before they got asking away with their hair questions and concerns.
This is what Dr John Gray had to say:

PART 1:
· In the summer weather, particularly with high humidity, hair is bound to suffer, particularly if it has been chemically treated. It is so important to make sure that your hair care regimen includes adequate conditioning to prevent moisture flooding in and out of the hair. Consult the website for the best products to suit your hair- www.pantene.co.za  The other major problem is that most of us just do NOT dry our hair properly when we have washed it.

·On the old issue of SULPHATES, there is so much poor science and myth. ALL surfactants are designed to clean and remove dirt from hair and scalp. It is complete nonsense that SLS is somehow dangerous. It is a well-recognised and very effective cleaner which also has a foaming property. Contrary to rumour it does not cause cancer or any of the other many disorders which are attributed to it. It is accepted by Regulatory Authorities around the world.

·Masques and other intensive conditioners REALLY do help particularly for processed/dry hair BUT remember , always apply these from the tips up the hair shafts. It is at the ends where most damage has occurred over time

·Split ends will eventually occur to any hair if it grows long and is damaged both by grooming but particularly by heat and chemicals. Pantene products can help to minimise this and temporarily repair them. However, eventually an expert trim and continuing to use, say Pantene Repair & Protect will give you best results

·Dry hair needs extra moisture. Look at the Pantene website, choose your hair type – say you have fine hair, then select the Aqua Light shampoo with the conditioner and Intensive Nourishing Treatment. Whatever your hair type – there is something out there for you

dry-hair

· There is no scientific evidence that changing your shampoo is “good” for your hair. In fact there is evidence for the exact opposite. Stay with what you have found works for you.

·Classic Care Pantene is effective for oily scalps but no cosmetic shampoo reduces hair loss from the hair follicle. Pantene, however can reduce hair breakage

·Protecting hair against sun and chemicals in water – not possible to formulate shampoos/conditioners like skin care products because they are water based.

·Wash your hair as often as you wish – I sometimes do twice daily. Even classic shampoos have very light conditioners built in to help with combing and prevent tangling. For dry, damaged hair make sure you always condition

·Dandruff is caused by the presence of a unique fungus which only lives on the scalp . During puberty with all those hormones it goes wild and produces inflammation in the skin – hence all those flake. Head & Shoulders used daily will completely eradicate it and prevent recurrence

·Pantene has been developed for ALL hair types. Ladies (and gentlemen) with African hair have a greater need for moisturising as their hair tends to dry. Try it and see – if you have this type of hair you will be surprised. I have noticed though that hair washing frequency and practice is very different between people of different ethnicities and this makes a difference

·Oily hair – use an effective say Classic Care shampoo to remove the oil and then you can condition.

·Male or Female Pattern Hair loss is absolutely NOT caused by tight hats. It is an inherited disorder for both. Choose your parents wisely!

·Curly hair, whether it be short or long is often a trial to the owner – hence many use all sorts of devices to straighten it. I think curly hair is GORGEOUS. It takes time, care and the right products to manage it . Particular care, pre-shampoo to ensure minimal tangling is critical. Then absolute care when drying using natural tools to define the curls and use the frizz Fighter product

·What is in Pantene Conditioners that makes them feel so good?  An amazing complex of silicones, gums and what are called polymers which makes it all hang together. These ingredients are SO clever they target areas on damage on the hair, improve grooming, infiltrate inside to stabilise moisture and reduce electric static to prevent flyaway.

·Quite a lot on hair loss/hair fall- we naturally lose 50-80 hairs a day . If you have long dark hair it looks more that short light hair. Most loss occurs when shampooing/grooming – so if you only wash once every three days – up to 250 hairs in once go. More than this occurs naturally after birth of baby as hair has been growing for longer with those oestrogen hormones. More loss than this – or if you can see scalp at front , SEE a doctor.

·For dry, brittle hair there are some rare inherited conditions. Most dry brittle hair in adults is due to chemical and other self-inflicted damage but NOT in children

·Questions on keeping hair looking good after colouring – If you look on the Pantene website – choose the Protect & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner and the Damage Rescue masque. Coloured hair ALWAYS needs a lot of care and attention.

·Laser therapy is, in my opinion of questionable value. Although the devices are approved for use – this only relates to safety – NOT to whether they actually work or not. The only 2 products accepted by all hair experts and Regulatory Authorities are Minoxidil for men and women and Finesteride for men. Other than hair transplants they do really work for both .

·Classic care for oily /greasy hair but if not responding you may have dandruff – in which case Head & Shoulders works !
