Another Smashbox review, indeed. I went slightly overboard on the Woolies sale.
This mascara is not bad but it also is not good. It has a funny nubbly applicator that hurts when you apply it to close to your eyelid. It also makes your lashes very hard and is difficult to remove. I find that it burns my eyes and makes them water ending up with it looking as though I always have pink eye. Not at all impressed with Smashbox. Will stick to my old Faithful Maybelline colossal Cat Eyes.
This mascara is billed as a "high-intensity all-in-one mascara with a unique dual brush and comb applicator that lifts, lenthens, volumises and defines".
I loved the colour - a really dark, glossy black, but found that the other claims fell short. I didn't notice any significant increase in volume and only a slight increase in length.
As for the dual brush and comb applicator, I have to be honest and say I did not notice the different sides of the applicator until I read about it in another review! I had used this mascara a few times by then so who knows which side of the applicator I was actually using to apply! On close inspection of the applicator I could see the different brush and comb sides, but I found the difference between them to be minimal.
I also found that this is a very "wet" mascara so you have to be very careful when applying. The first time I used it I blinked too quickly after application and ended up with dark black smudges down my cheeks!
This is a very lightweight mascara. It isn't really suited to giving your lashes volume. It's more about lengthening them and making them pop by giving them a super black colour. I've enjoyed using this, but if you are looking to "thicken" your lashes or give the appearance of volume then this isn't the mascara for you.
I've also noticed that you can't apply more than 2 coats of this mascara. It becomes very clumpy and thick. So to get the perfect look a maximum of 2 coats is needs. It lasts all day, it doesn't smudge and it washes off easily.
Depending on your type of lashes this product would differ from each person. I have "normal" length lashes that’s not to short but not the long ones I always dreamed of having! This mascara was great when applying but I find it on the low side when I needed to volumes my lashes. I prefer bigger brushes, because I find it works better with regards to pumping lashes.
