I get so many parents who email me asking for tips on how their teens should care for their skin and the correct skin care. Sometimes going into your teenage years, and as your body is changing, can cause the skin to break out, and in some cases severe acne can happen as well. Just recently a friend asked me to take a look at her daughter’s skin and if I could suggest how to cover up some of the more noticeable blemishes. She was on medication so I did not want to recommend anything that might clog her pores. A mineral foundation worked best for her skin, and gave her great coverage to conceal the redness.
India Eisley star of the hit show “The Secret Life Of The American Teenager” and seen above is lucky enough to have really beautiful skin, but being on set all day can definitely takes its toll. Between the hot lights while shooting, to long shoot days, and let’s not forget makeup for film and TV which can sometimes be more than what you would usually wear. India, even at such a young age knows how important it is to take care of your skin. Her complexion is on the lighter side so wearing an SPF is extremely important. You don’t always see the sun damage but believe me it is there.
The good news is most girls grow of the the teen acne/blemish phase pretty quickly and with so many products available either from your doctor or over the counter, problem skin doesn’t stand a chance:-) The most important tip that I share with all of my teen clients is to not neglect your skin. Cetaphil is a fabulous skin care line that you can find at most drugstores, and it is wonderful for cleansing and removing makeup. It was originally formulated for dermatologists, so it’s gentle on the skin and to your skins needs. I recommend their products to so many people.
Our favorite Esthetician and skin care expert, Anouchka Ferrer recommends that teens should cleanse properly morning and night depending on their skin type and use a day time moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15. If you are experiencing severe acne she says not to wash with a detergent soap since this dries up the sebum and clog the pores. If you have an esthetician that you like you may want to visit them first before seeing a dermatologist. Many of them have the knowledge and experience to help with teenage skin care and get it back on track.
