Fear not fine-haired friends, we’ve raided the BB beauty closet to bring you the ultimate hair fixes to help you get enviable volume, texture and thickness.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: FINE HAIR VERSUS THIN HAIR
Start by determining whether or not you have fine or thinning hair.
Fine hair is a genetic characteristic relating to the consistency of individual hair strands, whereas thinning hair can be attributed to at least 30 or so underlying medical conditions – including hormonal imbalances, stress and a poor diet.
FINE HAIR FIX #1: PUMP UP THE VOLUME WITH MOUSSE
Use mousse to lift and combat limp hair and enhance existing natural kinks and curls. Max the volume by throwing in a va-va-voom blow dry too. Using a rounded brush, focus on the roots and work hair in an upward motion. Finish off by running a pea-sized amount of mousse through your tresses.

FINE HAIR FIX #2: SWITCH TO AN ENRICHED SHAMPOO
Opt for enriched shampoos that repair and nourish the follicles from within, as opposed to silicone-based ones that coat the surface of strands with product.
TRY: Dark and Lovely Fat Protein Food Shampoo (R24.95, pharmacies) contains bodybuilding proteins that prevent damage and promote hair repair and growth.
FINE HAIR FIX #3: BE A DRY SHAMPOO DEVOTEE
The last thing you need to complement your already lanky locks, is oily a set of oily strands. A fresh burst of dry shampoo absorbs grease and gives limp, unwashed hair a welcome body boost.

FINE HAIR FIX #4: LIGHTEN UP YOUR CONDITIONER
Deep conditioners can weigh hair down, so use them sparingly – every second wash should suffice .

FINE HAIR FIX #5: TREAT YOUR SCALP
Repair and protect damaged hair follicles by treating them to a kickass strengthening treatment to help thicken and rebuild damaged hair fibres. If your hair is particularly fine and prone to oiliness, it’s best to avoid roots and apply leave-in treatments to tips of hair strands only.

FINE HAIR FIX #6: USE PROTECTION
Protect damaged and already fine and lackluster locks from further damage by spritzing strands with a thermal product before styling with heat.

Combat fine-haired girl curl conundrums by using a hardworking hair spray to hold hair in place for longer.

• A short, blunt cut makes fine hair appear thicker.
• Velcro or foam rollers and a spritz of a texturizing spray should extend the life of your curls.
• Keep already frazzled fine hair clear of chemical treatments and heat-styling over 180 degrees.
