From NYX’s website:
Apply eyeshadow base to lids, then apply eyeshadows and see the colours pop with vibrant and sparkling luster. Eyeshadow base grabs and firmly holds finely milled powder so the colour in the pot is what ends up on your eyes.
What I liked:
– improves the colour payoff and intensity of eyeshadows
– easy to apply
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– if you have oily lids, eyeshadows will still crease and fade after a few hours of wear
– jar packaging
I’ve been wanting to try NYX Eyeshadow Bases (available in White, Pearl and Skintone) ever since they came out so when I started running low on primers I thought it was finally time to give one of them a go. Because I love my eyeshadows very vibrant, I opted for White. White bases, in fact, apart from making your lids ghastly after application lol, improve the colour payoff of eyeshadows and really make the shades pop a lot more than any flesh-toned primers.
I have never really been into shadow bases until I started using a concealer as a base and realised the big difference it can make. I decided to get a proper one and chose the Nyx base in the shade "Skintone". It is a deep skintone colour that melts into your skin as it blends. It covers all veins and smooths out the eye surface completely.
I set it with a neutral colour eyeshadow and apply makeup as normal. It goes on softer and blends out a lot better. The colour also lasts longer and never moves around or ends up on my cheeks.
They also have a white base which I think would be great for colourful or bolder looks!
I have oily skin, and I just had to accept that makeup creases on my eyelids was a way of life - even though I hated it, even with primer, I still creased.
Until I tried out NYX Eyeshadow, it lasts the full day and night with no touch ups required.
Love this, at NYX you will find a really affordable solution for every skin care problem.
I love this product. It leaves my eye shadow crease-less. It's creamy and stay on long. It gives you eye shadow a lot of definition. It definitely makes your makeup more dramatic. It lasts long.'t I don't use this on a daily basis, just because I don't want dramatic eyes everyday. I like more subtle eye shadow for work. All smiles from me.
I LOVE this eyeshadow base - it's very creamy, smooth and easy to apply. I actually prefer it to my Benefit lemon aid primer. I've seen so many negative reviews about the eyeshadow base, but I'm not sure why cause I have honestly been loving it and I've only been using this primer.
My eyeshadow and liner applies smoother after using this eyeshadow base. And my makeup doesn't move or slide at all. I'm using the skin tone one and it's the perfect colour for my lids and covers up all the veins and purple hues.
I was so excited to try this product because I've been looking for a matte white eyeshadow base for ages and never seemed to find the right one for me. Many people feel its unnecessary to apply a base before eyeshadows, but since I've tried it, it has changed my perspective completely. Before my eyeshadows (even expensive brands) would start fading throughout the day due to your lids getting oily. By applying this eyeshadow base, my eye makeup has literally lasted for 12 hours +! Which is amazing!
The reason why I wanted a matte white base instead of a skintone one was because matte coloured eyeshadows that are popular during summer such as purples, pinks and greens, don't appear intense enough for my liking. What this base does, is that it provides a smooth canvas for the colourful eyeshadows, keeps the eyeshadow on all day, maximises the intensity of the colours.
So if you ever have eyeshadows where you would like the colour or pigmentation to be more intense, try using a matte white base before applying your eyeshadow. It really works and the added benefit is that your eyeshadows won't collect on the fold of skin on your eye lid (creasing).
The product applies really smoothly and blends easily, which is great because you don't want to be tugging or pulling around your eye area, where the skin is delicate. I usually only apply this to the part of the eyelid that I will be applying most of my eyeshadows and leave the "highlight" area clean.
The product comes in a small white pot that is easy to travel with and it has a screw on top.
The price isn't bad if you compare it to how much you would pay for an eye primer at MAC. It retails for around R89.95 and you only need a touch to prime your lids. A small pot should last your easily for 2 years even if you're applying eyeshadows 6 days out of a week.
I've used this product for a few months now and I will definitely purchase it again when I'm done with it.
