Shopping for beauty products can be a real pain. Sifting through thousands of brands accompanied by sky-high price tags… Can someone say, “Headache of note”? Without lowering your standards, harming your skin or wasting your money, you can avoid the blunder. Here’s how with the following makeup purchasing DOs and DON’Ts:
DO buy multipurpose makeup, such as lip-cheek combinations. They’re not only convenient, but will save you a lot of money and time.
DO shop in the daylight for your makeup, especially foundation. This way you will be able to get the perfect match and get a real feel of the makeup you’re using.
DO save your receipts. Many stores will refund your money within a specified period of time if you are not satisfied with a product.
DO make sure that if you are looking for a new foundation, powder, or any other cosmetic, that you try it on first. That way you get a free consultation while you are in store.
DO have reasonable expectations of makeup’s capabilities. Makeup can do wonder, but it cannot change the texture of your skin. For example, if you have acne, makeup won’t make your skin smooth and clear.
DON’T equate “dermatologist tested” with better quality. The claim does not guarantee that the doctor approved of the product – just that it was tested.
DON’T assume that someone knows what colour is “best” for you. Yes, a makeup consultant or makeup artist can help you determine if warm tones or cool tones work best with your complexion, but only YOU know what colour is best for you. Try it on and make sure that you feel comfortable and confident with it on. No one else is more qualified than you to tell you what lipstick shade is best for you.
DON’T stick to just one department store. If you have the option, use all the resources you have. The more beauty advisors and different stores giving you the latest scoop on free gifts, makeup specials and events, the better off you will be.
DON’T be shy. If you are purchasing something from a counter in a department store, you should never leave without a sample. Just ask; it will save you money in the long run. Also, make a connection with one of the beauty advisors. They can inform you about the upcoming gifts with purchase and events.
DON’T be afraid to purchase something you might not have normally tried. It’s a good thing to have a staple beauty routine, but don’t close yourself off to something that could be beautiful and possibly more appealing. And, besides, if you’re not happy with the product, you can always take it back and exchange it for something that will work for you.
It’s been proven; No matter what your skill level, you can achieve a gorgeous look and save yourself a few pennies.
I hope this guideline comes in handy to you for your next beauty shopping experience. And, most importantly DON’T forget, DO have a positive mindset and have FUN!
