So, I have been using Soft Ochre for years, but I wanted to try this one & I think I still prefer Soft Ochre.
Painterly has a lot of pink undertones to it & I have a yellow undertone. I also find that it is not as opaque as Soft Ochre. It does not provide me with a completely blank canvas.
It still makes eyeshadow pop & last longer without creasing. I don't think it's bad, I just think it works better for fairer complexions.

I was so annoyed with eye show that vanished in the day or creased up and looked yuck that I decided to spoil myself with the MAC paint pot at a whopping R 240.
My verdict : creams dries quickly to a beautiful finish and if you spread it evenly on the eye lid it wont crease in the day. I can use it on its own or with any powdered eye shadow. Lasts until I take it off in the evening . You know you have a winner when other women admire your makeup, so although pricey, its worth every cent.

I use MAC Paint Pots in all my bridal makeup applications and it REALLY holds an eyeshadow as well as intensifying the colours of said eyeshadows. If you have very oily lids, i suggest using a light dusting of face powder on the lids and then applying the paint pot. Cream eyeshadows are great as you can apply them directly from the pot using your fingers or a brush (depending on look and budget). Using different Paint Pots in conjunction with one another allows you to blend super natural eyeshadow looks. (depending on colour choices, obviously ;)

I have been looking for an eye shadow primer for a long long time. With Urban Decay not being available in the country it is not easy to find something that really works well. Even though Painterly can be used on its own as a natural eye shadow, I bought it specifically as a primer.
Firstly its very creamy. Is spreads easily but you have to spread it straight away otherwise it will start drying in a thick layer. Little really goes a long way. I hardly touch the product with my finger and I already have enough for the whole lid. It can also be applied with a brush but I prefere not to waste it and just use my finger.
The coverage is fantastic. I have dark veins on my lids and this product is great at covering everyhing and creating a really flawless canvas for your eye makeup. The color blends with the color of my skin so one can't tell I am wearing anything. It is only true for fair skinned girls as it will look pasty on dark skins. The color on the picture is a bit darker than in real life.
Since it is a cream product it really helps powder eyeshadows stick to your lids. Eyeshadows stay put and don't get wiped off as you blend them out.
I am very happy I bought this. It really is worth the price. I really think one pot will last me at least 2 years with everyday use. My only con is that it still creases a bit during the day. I am still on a hunt for something that won't budge at all and can even hold my cream eyeshadow (yes Revlon cream quad, I am looking at you). I would love to try MAC paint (in a tube) to see how that will perform. Please send me a message if you found something that really works!
