Beauty rules are meant to be broken! Lupita Nyong’o has proved it with her multicoloured eye makeup and soft pink peony pout at the 2014 SAG Awards. Here’s a breakdown of how you can get this rule-breaking beauty look using Chanel cosmetics:

1. Start by massaging Chanel Sublimage L’Essence Essential Revitalizing Concentrate and Chanel Sublimage La Crème Yeux into your skin. Let it settle on your skin for five minutes. Then, blot it off with a tissue, leaving behind just enough moisture for a perfect canvas.
2. Dust Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Emotion onto the apples of your cheeks to add dimension.
3. Apply Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour on your T-zone, under your eyes, onto the bridge of your nose and along your chin to brighten the face.
4. And, now for the first rule-breaker – the unexpected combination of blue, purple and yellow on the eyes. To recreate Lupita Nyong’o’s statement making eyes, apply the bright turquoise shade from the Chanel Les 4 Ombre Quadra Eye Shadow in Fascination from the inner corner of your eyes to the center. Then, apply Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Amethyst from the outer corners toward the centre, making sure that the two colours do not meet. Start off with Chanel Rouge Coco Baume Hydration Conditioning Lip Balm and let it sit on your lips to moisturise, before then blotting it off. Then, trace the edges of your lips with Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres Precision Lip Definer in Framboise and then fill them the entire lip in, and then blot that off. Finally, apply Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Passion, and blot off to make your lips look like a stain and not too lipstick-y.  Colour popped in this gentle way gives the look a feminine touch, whereas going for a neutral lip colour instead, would have just fallen flat.

So, why not break all the rules? If you can carry colour well, like stunningly beautiful Lupita Nyong’o, or if you simply love this look and want to experiment with colour, don’t be hindered by the so-called rules of beauty and makeup.
