I never thought the day would come where I’d say goodbye to my beautiful black tresses. I was always against hair dye. I thought it would damage my hair and well, I just couldn’t see myself without black hair EVER! After 20 years of enduring black locks, the journey had finally come to an end…
Being new to hair dye, I decided not to go too drastic for my first time. I used Garnier Nutrisse Ultra colour hair dye in Frosted Chestnut. One bottle was not enough for my long hair, and there wasn’t any more Frosted Chestnut in stock, so I decided to mix the colour with Garnier Nutrisse Ultra colour hair dye in Iced Blonde. I don’t know if that’s even allowed, but the result was remarkable! I don’t think the Frosted Chestnut colour would have pulled through as much on my black tresses if it weren’t for the Iced Blonde.
I was very nervous at first. I was afraid that the strong-smelling formula would burn my scalp, but it didn’t tingle, burn or itch at all. It actually felt quite smooth and soothing as it was applied to my hair and scalp. I couldn’t dye my hair on my own because of the length, so I got my sister to help me out. It took quite a bit of time for it to be applied. I did become impatient, but at the end, it was all worth it.
Once all the dye was applied, I combed it through my hair. It was easy to comb through at the roots, but became a bit of a battle as I tried to comb it through the length of my hair. My hair actually felt quite hard at the length because of the dye. However, I did like the fact that the formula didn’t splatter everywhere as I combed it through my hair, although it did stain my fingers.
I then anxiously waited for the dye to work through my hair for 35 minutes. I could see it working very quickly at my roots within the first 5 minutes. I was very surprised at how fast the dye worked. It became very light at the roots, which was something I was not used to seeing. This worried me a lot! I didn’t realise the colour would be that light. I could see the light brown colour of the Frosted Chestnut with hints of red. I didn’t know that the Frosted Chestnut would emanate red tones, but I loved that it did. I could also see subtle hints of light blonde in my hair from the Iced Blonde hair dye.
I then rinsed the dye out of my hair. It was such a breeze to wash out! I could feel then already how soft the dye had made my hair. To seal the colour in, I combed in the conditioner that came with the product. It smelled amazing and made my hair feel silky smooth. After 2 minutes of letting the conditioner work through my hair, I rinsed it out thoroughly. I then let my hair air dry.
Seeing how my hair looked wet made me very eager to see what it would look like once it had been styled. Once my hair had air dried completely, I went over it with a hair straightener. Saying I was satisfied with the result is an understatement! I am happy beyond belief! My hair looks healthy and shiny, smells out of this world and feels fantastic! Even If I should say so myself, the colour combination I made from the Frosted Chestnut and Iced Blonde was absolutely genius! I would do it again anytime.
Using Garnier Nutrisse Ultra colour hair dye has definitely changed my perspective on hair dye. It has proven to me that change isn’t such a bad thing after all. I without a doubt see myself using Garnier Nutrisse Ultra colour hair dye in future, and I would recommend this product to anyone that wants to or does dye their hair.
