Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Colour - Frosted Chestnut 5.25
HotI received 5.25 Frosted Chestnut from Garnier and BB... I'm Naturally a brunette with a redish tint - But love to color my hair every now and then to then to get a vibrant fresh color... First impression: - Visually attractive packaging, it draws the eye and sparks the interest - Contents are well labeled - Info page extremely informative (so there is no way you can get this wrong). - Extremely user friendly. - The smell is AMAZING!!!! This is definitely a huge stand out for me, Most box dye's have a very strong and sometime intolerable chemical smell that can take your breathe away, the Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color has a lush fruity smell which made the whole process quite a pleasure. I have to be honest here... I have loads of hair, so my mom helped me out in the hard to reach places.. I wanted this done properly to get the full benefits of this awesome color! - Solution mixed easily with my hair, coating all strands from root to tip.. I have to admit i got quiet a bit on my ears and neck (oops)and was dreading the tell tale signs the morning after... but to my pleasant surprise, THIS DID NOT STAIN MY SKIN!!! YAAAY :) After I applied the solution, I plonked myself down in front of the TV to catch up on 7de Laan :) 30min later, I hoped off to the shower, Garnier moisturizing conditioner in hand in order to give my hair some much needed deep conditioning. After applying a bit of water in order to loosen up the color, I then proceeded to rinse color until water ran clear. I then added a good dollop of the fruity smelling conditioner to my hair, left in for 5 minutes, then rinsed out - I love the fact that this is so light weight and rinses out very easily, leaving my hair extremely soft and very manageable. After a quick blow dry, and then flat iron - may i just add that this took me 32 minutes in total as opposed to the usually laborious 1hr 15minutes (I was thrilled yet again) this is my findings: - EXTREMELY sleek, glossy hair that shimmers like crazy!!! - My hair was extremely soft and pleasant smelling - Thanks to both color and conditioner, my hair was left vibrant and full of life. - I have no negative comments to make about this product, im really impressed and will recommend to all! - I AM OFFICIALLY A CONVERT... Please see pics for visuals :) Thank you to Beauty Bulletin and Garnier for the first hand experience! You guys rock!
User reviews
Sadly the colour lasted all of 2 weeks when the greys at my hair line started poking through again. This product is suppose to give lasting colour but clearly lasting was all of 2 weeks. I am now left with flat dull hair going 3 weeks on. The greys look orange rather than a chestnutty brown hue. Not impressed at all ?
i recommend this product to anyone who want a quality product and their colour range is something else... variety and different.
The hair color promises to have 8 weeks anti-dryness(guaranteed?) The conditioner contains almond, olive and avocado oil. The very attractive box contains an applicator bottle of developing crème, a tube of nourishing color crème and 1 bottle of nourishing conditioner. It also has a (quite strong I must add)pair of gloves and an easy to understand instruction leaflet with great illustrations(I guess to help those of us that get ultra color blond moments)
I challenged my fears by choosing a color vastly different from my own but one that I thought would be less offf a shock to my mirror........ :-)
I applied the hair color a day after undoing my weave, I suppose that was rather stupid of me because I was subjected to a bit of stinging to my scalp so thats a no-nothat wasn't mentioned on the leaflet(ladies take note!!!!) The shampoo and conditioner have a lovely smell, and do not sting the eyes.
The dye has a great non drip formula thats great for us clumsly clods and the fact that you dont have to fiddle with brushes and just use the tube to apply is a boon! The dye looks as though its not going to be enough but it sure is I probably could have used half and still done the same job! Just a warning though and a note to self: Wash in a deep sink......the shower looked awful after this!!! but it was easy to clean.
My hair never got as course as it normally does after dying and that was great for me! The great thing is that the coloring was subtle enough not to shock yet dramatic enough that even my 11 year old boy noticed! Love the Ultra Color! Next time I'll get a more shocking one.....maybe blonde or red copper!!!!!!!! Come on ladies try it out!
I chose 5.25 Frosted Chestnut for two reasons. The first being that I couldn't go much lighter than a medium brown due to the henna in my hair. The second is that I anticipated that Beauty Bulletin would only send one box. Even though my hair is thin, it is long and if I took a vastly different color and the box was not enough I’d end up with blotches. Seeing that Frosted Chestnut is only a few shades lighter than my natural hair color and similar to the henna in my hair, if I did end up with blotches it wouldn't be obvious.
I washed my hair the night before so that it would be dry and product free when I dyed it. I de-tangled and divided my head into four quadrants and clipping each section up. I started at the roots of the front quadrants, that way if I did end up with too little product, at least my hair on top would cover the blotches. I used my hands and a wide tooth to quickly spread the product. After I completed the roots of all four quadrants I applied the product to the length. It was enough to cover my hair, but truth be told I spread it quite thinly. If you have long hair get two boxes.
The conditioner smells divine, mostly due to the avocado oil. It is also super thick and creamy. I tried using all of the contents in the small bottle, but then I realized that I already had too much on my hair. I still have a little left that I intend on using the next time I wash my hair (never shampoo your hair within three days of dying it).
After styling my hair, I was surprised at how light it became. Honestly I didn't expect it to lighten much. However, it was shined a very reddish-brown. I did not expect it to have such a red shine and if I knew that, I would have taken the darker brown. The shade is lovely, but it’s just not what I wanted. Fortunately the color settled over the past few days and it’s not as red, but more brown. With the exception of my hair being a bit darker at my ends due to my black dye, which I don’t mind because I need a trim, my hair is one shade. My hair is also not damaged and it feels smooth. Unfortunately my camera makes my hair look darker than it is, but hopefully you can see some difference in these pictures.
A huge thank you to BB for sending me this wonderful product!
The instructions are easy to follow. The hair color crème spreads easily, won't drip and smells great when you apply it. It smells sweet and fruity and not like perfume. It can take 25 minutes for little or no gray hair or 35 minutes for lot of gray hair. I follow the 35 minutes to cover all of my grays. It sounds like a long time but it is worth it. What I do to pass the time is to finish my chores, read a book or grab my notebook to brainstorm for future AC articles. I sometimes finish an article as I wait.
When time is up you wash the hair color out and apply the Avocado oil conditioner for only 3 minutes. What you are left with is basically wet just colored hair but later your hair will dry and the color will come out. I usually go under a very bright light after I color my hair to see the newly acquired red highlights. They don't appear until your hair is thoroughly dry. Trust me. The hair color comes in several different shades for any color you want.
*Note: It is best to always test the nourishing color crème of any color you choose before using to see if you are not allergic. Just follow the directions on how to take the test found in the instructions.
Nutrisse Garnier also has several other excellent products like shampoo, hair styling moose. I use the Garnier Nutrisse hair styling moose and shampoo. They work just as good as the hair color with the same sweet smell and great results.
I swear by this product. It really works. Try it!
If I ever color my hair, this is what I use. I've gone to the salon and spent R 600 only to have the color slide within a week and I can't even tell I had been. So frustrating! I've tried other brands of drug store color, and while they work okay, they stink. A lot. I like the Garnier Nutrisse because it works well- I've always had the color come out pretty true to what it should have been, never anything funky. I don't have to go 4 shades darker than what I want just so that when it slides out, it will still be noticeable. The added bonus here is that it doesn't stink up my whole house to smell like a salon for hours. I have used this stuff several times over the past couple of years, and in fact, I just got some last night and will be using it to change my amazingly difficult hair from honey blond to red in just a bit. I'm excited and would for sure reccomend this brand. I dyed my hair like a chestnut color and for anyone who dyes their hair any shade, they know how hard it is to keep. Because red shades fade sometimes within a few days because of molecule size. But a friend of mine dyed her hair about 3 weeks ago with the color Dark Intense Auburn, and so far it hasn’t faded at all, and the colour looks pretty much the same as the day she dyed it!. Now I can actually dye my hair have it look pretty and actually last 4-6 weeks like it says on the box before dying again.
I color my hair twice a year, going a little bit lighter with the warmer weather and a little bit darker when the leaves start to turn. Over the years, I have tried many brands but two years ago found Garnier Fructis Nutrisse. Bye-bye harsh chemical smell, hello wonderful fragrance. My hair has never looked more natural. I think it looks more natural than my real haircolor. And talk about soft ... my husband loves to run his fingers through my hair after I've colored (I love it when he runs his fingers through my hair, but I also like to run my fingers through my own hair after I've used Garnier Fructis). This softness is from the conditioning avocado seed oil that is included with the hair dye. It works wonders, and the smell is fantabulous!!! There is not one bad thing I could possibly say about Garnier Fructis Nutrisse. I would not think about switching to another brand ... Garnier Fructis is the only haircolor for me!!
I received this amazing hair colour in 5.25 Frosted Chestnut from Beauty Bulletin. This month I decided to make Garnier's slogan "WHY GO UNNOTICED?" my resolution and become noticed so I decided to dye my hair.
About Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Colour
It's a permanent nourishing hair colour, which has reflecting pigments, and is anti drying. The promise is - 'Ultra shimmering, long-lasting brunette. Silky shiny hair.' The product is also new and promises 8 weeks anti dryness and has a conditioner which contains 3 oils.
About the Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Colour Box
The front of the box has a beautiful model whose hair is dyed in the colour Frosted Chestnut, so consumers can see exactly what the colour looks like on hair. The front of the box has more information about the product and how it helps nourish hair.
The left side of the box has a colour test. The colour test helps people with different hair shades (dark brown, light brown and blonde) to know the different shades their hair will become after being dyed.
The right side of the box has instructions which could help you know if you're allergic to the product. It's important that you perform an allergy test before applying hair colour.
The back of the box helps customers know more about the product they are purchasing and how the product enhances the hair colour and nourishes it.
The back of the box also has a circle push in, it helps when mixing the hair dye, you simply push in the circle and place the bottle in the circle when mixing the dye. (See my experience)
The top of the box has the hair colour and a sample picture of the colour hair will possibly become once coloured.
The bottom of the box has the ingredients that the different products contain.

About the Products
The three main products of the hair colouring treatment are labeled as Step A, Step B and Step C.
Step A is the Developer Creme in an Applicator Bottle
Step B is the nourishing hair colour
Step C is the colour nourishing conditioner.
The instruction leaflet
The instruction leaflet contains all the information you will need to dye your hair. It has safety instructions, step by step to colour your hair and how to make the most of your colour once you've dyed uour hair.
The Leaflet Process
(I will just give a brief summery about the steps)
STEP 1 - Get Ready: Prepare and mix up your colour
In this step, the instructions will give details about how to mix the colour.
STEP 2 - Apply: On dry unwashed hair and smell the fruity fragrance
In step two the instructions help you on applying the colour to your hair and the time limits that you should leave the colour. You could go with option one or two. Option 1 is to dye you're entire head, while Option 2 is if you're going to dye only the roots (also known as a root touch up)
STEP 3 - Rinse and condition: And see your radiant new colour
The final step on how to achieve a lovely colour and how to maintain your colour.
My Experience
When I dye my hair I always use Garnier Nutrisse because I feel the colour looks better on my hair and my hair actually looks more refreshed and revived after colouring my hair, rather than looking dull and stripped of colour. Another reason I love the Nutrisse range is because of the fruity smell, without opening the box with products you can easily get a pleasant fruity smell, rather than a strong ammonia smell.
What I used when colouring my hair:
Applicator bottle of Developer Creme - Step A
Tube of nourishing Colour Creme - Step B
Bottle of colour nourishing conditioner - Step C
A pair of gloves
An instruction Leaflet
A mirror
An old towel
A hair grip (also known as a jaw grip)
Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline)
Old Newspaper
My Process
Step One : First keep old newspaper everywhere because this job can get really messy! Keep all the products you will need close to each other, especially a mirror. And then you're ready to go!
Before I begin, I must admit, I cheated a little... I got my mother to help me with the application in the places I really couldn't reach. Once I was ready for the hair dye process, I pushed in the circle at the back of my hair colour box and placed my developer bottle (A) in the box, I then unscrewed the cap. I opened the colour tube (B) and pierced the tube with the cap (has a sharp point to poke the metal protector). I then placed the tube in the bottle and squeezed the entire content into the bottle (A). Once all the product is in the bottle (A) I rescrewed on the lid and shook the bottle for about a minute. (The instruction says 30 seconds, but I shook it for an extra 30 just to make sure) and the I snapped off the tip of the bottle.
NOTE: You have to snap of the tip as soon as you mix the product else the bottle will burst and you will not be able to use the product.
Step Two: I kept the bottle aside while I opened my hair. I applied a thin layer of Vaseline to my hair line and behind my ears (it helps prevent the hair colour from staining skin) I also kept a damp cloth in handy if I messed my face. The instructions say part hair in 4 sections, however I just applied the product to my detangled open hair (it's better to apply to clean dry hair, because if hair is oily, the colour might not catch on as well as it was meant to). I put on my gloves and begun to colour my hair. I applied the colour to my hair and massaged in the colour, once I completed my colouring, I used a wide tooth comb to spread the colour evenly and make sure every bit of my hair was coloured. I then gripped up my hair and used the cloth to clean up any bits that were on my skin. I also disposed of A and B and the newspaper and gloves.
I kept my colour on for around 40 minutes ( the instructions say you can leave the product on for 35 minutes if uour hair is resistant)
Step Three: I then rinsed my hair with a small amount of water (about a cup) and massaged my hair, just to emulsify the colour. After about 5 minutes I completed the rinsing process until the water was clear (meaning all the dye was gone). I then applied the Nourishing conditioner (C) to my hair and massaged well. It would be better if you don't apply any shampoo for 24 hours because it can help the colour intensify.
However make sure to use the Nourishing Conditioner (C) because it is very important. The final conditioner ensures a perfect elimination of the colouring ingredients and seals the colour by closing the scales of the hair. It nourishes and smoothes the hair, adding radiance and shine. You can keep the conditioner for the next 4 to 5 washes as it makes hair feel silky soft and nourished. The Nourishing Conditioner has been enriched with Shea Butter and three oils which are : Avocado, Olive and Blackcurrant.
Dry hair and style as normal.
The happily ever after
