Festive Nail Art Tutorial

I’m feeling the holiday spirit which I wanted to display in a fun, festive nail art manicure. Follow the easy steps below and you too could be sporting a cute, festive manicure.

You will need:

– Base coat nail polish
– Top coat nail polish
– Red nail polish
– Metallic green nail polish
– Chunky gold glitter nail polish
– Yellow nail polish
– Sticky tape/French tip guides
– Pair of scissors
– Orangewood stick/toothpick
– 1 small nail art flower sticker
– Gold striping tape

Method:

1) Apply base coat onto nails and wait for it to dry completely.

2) Apply white nail polish to accent nails (ring fingers) and red nail polish to remaining nails, wait for it to dry completely.

3) Cut sticky tape into 10 small pieces and apply your make shift ‘sticky tape french tip guides’ (or use proper french tip guides) to all nails except the ring fingers (accent nails). Make sure you gently but firmly press the sticky tape down onto the nails. I often swop out french tip guides and use sticky tape as a substitute and it works a charm!

4) Paint the metallic green nail polish onto all nails which have the ‘sticky tape french tip guides’ on, wait a few seconds and then pull off the ‘sticky tape french tip guides’. I find pulling the ‘sticky tape french tip guides’ off while the french tip nail polish is still wet is best as it leaves a cleaner line. I have tried leaving the ‘sticky tape french tip guides’ and normal french tip guides on till the french tips have dried completely and I have always ended up with a messy line.

5) Once the metallic green french tips are dry, cut 10 strips of gold striping tape to fit the nail and carefully apply each strip of gold striping tape above the metallic green french tip so that the gold striping tape shadows the metallic green french tip.

6) Now to work on the Christmas tree accent nail, cut 5 small pieces of the gold striping tape and place 3 pieces of the striping tape in the shape of a triangle on your nail. Then take the remaining 2 pieces and place them horizontally on either side of the triangle at the middle but without each piece touching each other, this creates the branches effect of the Christmas tree when you paint the nail polish on.

7) Once the striping tape is secured in place in the shape of a Christmas tree, carefully paint green metallic nail polish within the striping tape (if a little goes on the striping tape, that’s fine…just ensure that the green metallic nail polish doesn’t go completely over the striping tape and onto the outside white nail polish).

8) Carefully remove the striping tape as soon as you have painted the green metallic nail polish, removing the striping tape immediately will ensure a cleaner line.

9) Once the Christmas tree design is completely dry, start working on the decorations for the Christmas tree: – using an orangewood stick/toothpick place some gold glitter from the chunky gold glitter nail polish onto the Christmas tree, dip the end of an orangewood stick/dotting tool into red nail polish and dot on some red baubles and also into some silver nail polish to draw on silver tinsel, for the star decoration at the top I painted a tiny nail art flower sticker yellow, and stuck it at the top of the Christmas tree.

10) When the nail art is completely dry, apply top coat nail polish to ensure a longer wear manicure.
Festive nail art greetings and happy holidays to all!
