User reviews
The liquid of the perfume is also innovative—it is colored in black but becomes invisible when it touches the skin. Just like the fame itself: "It’s black like the soul of fame, but invisible once airborne." The bottle is beautifully designed............ i would definitely add this to my Favourite list next to my "Marc Jacobs DAISY" - "Victor& Rolf- Flowerbomb" and my beloved "Thierry Mugler - Alien
Would love to try it out myself but so expensive..
It is a very exotic smell, quite sweet but also with a floral smell too. The liquid is black in the bottle but sprays out clear (for those concerned about staining clothes) and the bottle is just gorgeous - I lost my lid at one point and was so upset.
It's a very edgy and different design, both the perfume and the bottle and I would definitely buy this again.
The packaging:
The bottle comes in a black box with gold trimmings and a gold embossed sticker. The bottle is oval shaped which sort of reminds me of the egg thingamagig that she showed up in at the 2011 Grammy awards. The cap is “an edgy and alien-like gold cap” which also reminds me of the props she uses in her shows.
The scent:
This is really an unconventional fragrance and was not created using the pyramid that is traditionally used. Instead, it uses “push-pull technology” where the ingredients demonstrate aspects of each note without precedence. It consists of 3 elements:
1) Dark (Belladonna notes)
2) Sensual (honey, saffron and apricot)
3) Light (tiger orchid notes)
The result? A lovely floral and fruity scent.
The verdict:
Honestly, it’s not my favourite fragrance in the world, but there’s no denying that its unique design and edginess makes it a “must try”. Don’t even bother calling yourself a little monster if you don’t own one of these!
I did however find that the perfume is not very travel friendly, and after carrying around in your handbags or on trips it partly loses its scent.
Inspired by the woman who is beautiful but dangerous, like the most exotic and rarest botanical flowers, Florabotanica twists Turkish rose with hemp and vetiver roots for an addictive trail. Other accords present in this bewitching fragrance are mint, carnation, caladium leaves and amber.
These unique notes come together for a powerfully sweet, slightly spicy fragrance that exudes romance, femininity and charm. Long-lasting freshness makes this beautiful fragrance ideal for the modern woman.
Fresh and floral yet mysterious at the same time, Florabotanica is not just another pretty looking fragrance after all!

Eventhough the scent wasn't what I thought it would be. (The black can be misleading) I was surprised by the sweet floral scent. Maybe it's what Gaga wants? Outside dark and hard but inside sweet en flowery?
I'm more into lighter scents but this will be a top seller for her little monster fans ;)
I know many have been bashing this product as being too sweet or florally for a Lady Gaga scent and it hasn’t lived up to the ‘blood and semen’ hype! However, let’s be frank...no one would buy a fragrance that smells foul and conjures up images that makes you want to wretch! Lady Gaga is in the game of shock, drama and publicity...in every single thing she does she aims to hit that trifecta...and she succeeds! The publicity campaign for this scent delivered on all three bases, especially the video directed by Steven Klein! Like everything else in life, money makes the world go round and I think the reason why this fragrance does smell slightly familiar and recognizable is that it needs to attract customers who want to smell irresistible while still feeling bad ass, in touch with their inner Lady Gaga or at the very least feel that they too can command the kind of attention she can...the kind of fame she owns!
I feel ‘Fame’ walks the line of being edgy enough which comes through in the strong packaging details and the exotic black fluid, while still being commercial enough in order to capture those wary of Lady Gaga or those who don’t want something too exotic...this comes through in the recognizable and familiar floral notes. While ‘Fame’ may not be a punch in the face of unique, I find the uniqueness to be symbolic to some extent. The notes of belladonna are very apparent on first whiff, the darker more sensual notes and it’s no surprise that Lady Gaga selected this note as historically belladonna was used as a tool of seduction or alternatively as a poison!
I found ‘Fame’ on first application to be a heady scent and immediately it reminded me of familiar masculine fragrances however a few seconds later the floral, sweet notes kicked in. ‘Fame’ struck me as a strong, in your face scent characteristics much suited to its maker! I was happy with the longevity of ‘Fame’ as a couple hours into the day the scent while somewhat muted due to long wear, the reminiscent headiness of ‘Fame’ was still apparent. All in all, I like this product and would definitely recommend purchasing it if you are after a strong, heady scent with floral notes. Whether you are a diehard fan or just someone looking for a new fragrance to try, ‘Fame’ ticks all the boxes!
Fame is, as the name suggests, an epitome of everything that Lady Gaga stands for and the reality around being a Hollywood starlet. All the media hype suggesting this perfume was going to be a mind-boggling concoction of very unusual ingredients like blood and semen, were in reality just a marketing gimmick that had to fit in with the image of the singer whose product line it was. I doubt that anyone would really have bought into the idea of a product drawn from human sources and to part with their hard-earned cash for this on an on-going basis. At best, this might have sold as a collectors item maybe due to Lady Gaga's cult status, pure intrigue and curiosity. Especially as her marketing campaign saw the introduction of little beings and the bottle is another representation of this.
Having sampled Fame, clearly this was not the intention behind the fragrance. It turned out to be quite sweet smelling, like a perfume should be with plant and chemical extracts. Fame actually pleasantly surprised me as it presented a very sophisticated fragrance with a light fruity and floral scent. Though not as strong as I would have expected as it is an Eau de Parfum, the smell did appear quite potent for the first hour and did linger for much of the day. The black fluid was also introduced to promote the feeling of uniqueness and once sprayed onto skin this became invisible.
All in all FAME did stir up a great deal of interest in the Lady Gaga brand and the perfume did not disappoint either.
What I did notice is that it smells similar to another perfume that I have smelt but I just can't put my finger on what the name of that perfume was - but I still like this a lot and I am seriously considering purchasing a full bottle when this is released in stores.
but to me it lacks that 'expensive sensual alluring woman smell'
This is a good perfume for teenie-bobbers.
In other words it smells nothing like the marketing of this fragrance.
I find the black fluid technology innovative albeit slightly gimmicky it was a fun idea to incorporate into her perfume and Im sure we are gonna start to see lots more colourful perfumes to hit the shelves after this.
The fragrance is a really pretty floral/sweet combination which leave me feeling very feminine.
I will say that I was disappointed with the staying power of the perfume on my skin. An EDP like this should last way longer than EDT's which, unfortunately, this perfume did not.
Over all I think this is a really successful try by Lady Gaga and I'm sure we can find her next perfume to be just as mind blowing. Thanks to Beauty Bulletin for this great sample.
When I first sprayed the fragrance on my wrist, I was immediately surprised by the sweet and girly smell. It is nothing as I had expected and I actually like the scent. The smell of a creamy orchid is the one that stands out to me the most, with a hint of honey and saffron.
The staying power is good and the scent does not change throughout the day, as other fragrances do.
The only down side is that I expected something unusual from Lady Gaga and I feel like this fragrance is too similar to other celebrity fragrances.
I wasn't really sure what to expect of this fragrance, but it was a far more "conventional" smell than I anticipated.
Because of the black colour of the fluid (which goes transparent when sprayed on the skin) I was expecting a very strong musky smell. So I was pleasantly surprised when it was quite fruity and light.
It's not my favourite fragrance (that honour goes to Bvlgari pour Femme) but I found it very wearable and inoffensive.
I was a bit scared to test the perfume because Lady Gaga is so different from all the other artist, but I was quite amazed. The perfume has an amazing smell and the black colour is something out of this world. I like the idea of the black fluid and once it’s airborne it changes to invisible.
It’s so different from other artists, like Britney Spears perfume. It has an unique smell, and the smell lasts long.
I would definitely buy the perfume because I love the smell, it is different and unique.
It is not the best perfume I have smelled but it’s definitely not the worst either. When I sprayed it on me, I notice a black-grey colour which turned clear quickly and at first I did not really know what to make of it but it did kind of smell fruity and then after a few minutes about 5 or 10, I could smell apricot and musk and maybe cherry. I have to say I am a fan of musky perfume though so that worked in my favour. Then after 30 minutes, I could smell jasmine and florally with a fait smell of oriental scents. So it does not have the “usual” structure as most perfumes whereby it has a top, middle and base notes.
The perfume almost lasted the entire day but it gradually faded as the day went on but much later during the day. It sort of lacked that “WOW” factor for me whereby with my past experiences of wearing other fragrances, I had guys literally smelling me and telling me that I smell wonderful.
What really impressed me about the perfume were the ‘black fluid technology’ and the bottle structure (especially the top) I love innovative ideas. I would definitely give this perfume 10 out of 10 for innovation!
Another wonderful thing was that the fragrance did not mess with my sinus which was a good thing as I would normally end up sneezing the whole day and it is a few perfume/fragrances that makes me not sneeze or feel like I have the case of severe flu. It did however smell very pleasant.
Will I buy the fragrance? Maybe not but should I be given the fragrance as a gift, it would not hurt wearing it as it is “wearable”.
For me the scent is as important as the bottle it comes in, it is a about the entire sensory experience and this is one really sexy bottle, I received the tester bottle to review and would love to see the full size bottle in “the flesh”! Fame is definitely going to be appearing on my Christmas or Birthday list!
I was excited to try this fragrance owing to all the hype,...
When I first heard about FAME I was not at all expecting a sweet smelling fragrance ....I expected something different, out of the box, un-expecting burst of notes... as lady GAGA herself....
When I first sprayed on,..I picked up the smell of nectar and jasmine. Unfortunately it didn't stay for too long. The fragrance is intense when first sprayed, disappearing completely in the next 3-4 hours.
Love the push-pull technology though...
Overall, a nice fragrance..if only it stayed for a bit long..
“Blood and semen, really? Why would you want to smell like that? But then of course, its lady gaga – everything she does is inexplicable, like that meat dress!” were my thoughts. Upon learning more about the fragrance I am happy to say I am relieved to know it only contains notes such as belladonna, honey, saffron, apricot nectar, tiger orchard, jasmine sambac and incense.
Apparently this fragrance is not like other – with no top, middle and base notes. All the notes come out the same time and using a push-pull technology that allows notes to rise at different times which allows for it to smell different on different people (if I understand it correctly).
Upon spraying the fragrance on my skin I do notice a faint greyish tinge in the liquid that very quickly turns clear on my skin. The fragrance starts off very fruity, I assume this to be the apricot nectar. The fragrance ‘settles’ on my skin as a fruity, yet creamy white floral fragrance. I tried rubbing the fragrance on my skin to see if I detect any other notes, but it remains the same. I find the fragrance very linear, however unlike other (most) celebrity fragrances this isn’t too sickly sweet. I enjoyed this fragrance for the most part I was wearing it, but after a while it changed on my skin - a note I am not familiar with, but smells “dirty” which I didn’t like. I did not detect the incense and the fragrance didn’t last long on my skin. I find although the fragrance didn’t live up to the hype – it is for the most a pleasant fragrance.
The perfume bottle is strangely beautiful. I love the gold cap which stands like a little monster when placed on it's own.
The black liquid is a new fragrance technology whereby once sprayed onto the skin it appears black but melts into the skin in seconds leaving no trace of it at all. Very cool indeed!
The perfume sprays on strong but blends wonderfully into the skin leaving a light sweet scent. This is where Lady Gaga surprises me. I was expecting something vile and out the box considering her controversial statements about how she wanted her perfume to smell. Instead this scent is so safe it can be worn day or night and to any occasion. Even your grandma will like it.
Is it as generic as most celebrity perfumes? I think not. Lady Gaga strikes a good balance by playfully mixing her dramatic flair with a warm and inviting scent. I give this a thumbs up!
Thank you to Beauty Bulletin for sending me a sample of this fragrance.
This black fluid perfume is rather intesreting. It's had so much hype and mystery around it, so I was rather excited to finally try it out. I can say that it's not what I expected - the bottle is very Lady Gaga, but the actual scent is a bit sweeter then what I would expect from the crazy Gaga.
This perfume doesn't last very long on my skin, even though it has a very strong and overwhelming smell when you first spray it. I picked up on Vanilla the first time I sprayed it. It has a very sweet, heady scent that is like nothing I've user worn before. It is a bit too sweet for my personal taste however.
The fragrance has a unique structure called the "push-pull technology," where the ingredients interact together to highlight different olfactive aspects of each note at the same time, without any hierarchy.
The scent is built around three main accords: dark, sensual and light.
The dark accord was inspired by Belladonna, the deadly nightshade possessed by haunted beauties since the 18th century.
From this darkness, the fragrance evolves to a sensual accord of opulence, a fusion of dripping honey, saffron and apricot nectar.
And lastly, the light accord whispers magnificence. The rich floral layer of crushed Tiger Orchid and Jasmine Sambac embodies timeless beauty.
My personal experience was amazing, i loved that the musky, sweet scent lingers longer and no need to over do it as it is long lasting.
Well done gaga!!
S*
This magic potion is AAA-freaking-mazing! I was sooooo excited to try it out and beyond pleasantly suprised!
Expect the unexpected! Sweet, Sexy and Sophisticated! (my boyfriends EXACT words!)
And ofcourse, I was expecting an equally Freaking high price tag, but was yet again pleasantly suprised, as this edt is just under R400!!
Its far more than a 'must have' =)
Since I have been reading the reviews, I knew to expect the unexpected so I wasn't too surprised by the sweet fragrance. It has quite a heady fragrance and I am not too fond of the sickeningly sweet top note to be honest (I tend to stay away from anything that sweet as it can make me feel ill to constantly smell it on me).
Anyway, I do like the smell that lingers once the top note fades. It has a rich, sensual smell and it is not too heavy. I noticed that by lunch time I could hardly smell the fragrance unless I put on quite a lot of it in the morning. I think that is probably a bad thing but I like it as it means the fragrance is not overwhelming.
As for the black fluid, I didn't actually notice it until this morning as the tester tube is black. It gave me a bit of a shock as I thought it would stain my shirt but coll enough, no such thing happened.
The ad for the perfume is quite creepy (I've seen it play in Edgars) and you would expect that the perfume does smell of blood and semen - but hey, no one would wear that! So what you get instead is a pretty normal (nice) smelling perfume that I am sure a lot of people will be wearing
I am not really a GAGA fan; however I like some of her songs.
Well when I got home my package was already opened by my very busy body husband.
After I settled in at home he came to me with his wrist and told me to smell.
WOW I must say I too did not expect it to sweep me to a point where I started thinking that I can turn heads with this perfume. I asked my husband if he bought me new perfume and he just smile.
As time passed I kept on begging him to show me the bottle, so I could see what I smelt….eventually he did.
I was surprised because, I mean WOW it smelt gorgeous. I might not be a big fan of Lady Gaga but I sure do like her taste of smell.
It smells beautiful and it did not irritate me (as I have allergy problems).
I seriously thought it was going to smell like wild flowers.
Thank you Lady Gaga and BB.
I'm indulging in this pleasant smell!
I know what my boyfriend can buy me for Christmas LOL *wink-wink*
The most eccentric part of her perfume is the liquid itself, which is actually black, and then becomes “invisible once airborne” (thanks to “an innovation in fluid technology”). It was amazing to see the perfume transform from black to transparent liquid right in front of my eyes.
But a mind-blowing and innovative as that technology is it the fragrance of the perfume that impressed me most of all. I can only explain it as sweet and subtle with just a small hint of sass. Ingredients include: belladonna, tiger orchidea, apricot, saffron, honey and Incense.
I would definitely be able to wear this fragrance to lectures, work and even while club hopping until the early hours of the morning. As it is subtle enough for formal occasions, but lasts hours with its hint of sass.
I am also extremely impressed with the bottle for the perfume. It, like the fragrance of the perfume, is anything but eccentric. The simple oval shape of the bottle and the gold details just scream elegance.
Out of so many celebrity perfumes available, I must admit that Fame is indeed one of my favourites. It has definitely been added to by Christmas wish list!
I was very intrigued when I heard about Lady Gaga's step into the fragrance market thinking its going to be one of those fragrances worn by teenagers so when I received it I applied it straight away and boy oh boy was I surprised.
I am not the biggest perfume wearer and stick to my few favourite ones but can definitely say Ill be adding this to my collection.
The concept of a black liquid is very interesting ,I was a bit disappointed to see the sample casing was black itself and when I sprayed it there was a very small hint of black.
The fragrance itself was a rather intriguing smell I wasn't sure what was appealing to me more, The Sweet fruity smell of Honey and Apricot ,the florally smell of the Tiger orchid , the spicy Saffron or the deep dark smell of Bella Donna (or as she puts it tears of). Having my aromatherapy background I was even more surprised when I read that Bella Donna was an ingredient as it is a poisonous plant that also goes by the term “Deadly Nightshade.” It has been used throughout history as both an anaesthetic and a poison and All the parts of the plant can be lethal.
With That in mind, It is no wonder it was added to a fragrance by an Artist like Gaga as her music definitely has become like a poison addicting everyone who hears it and so to will her fragrance with every smell.
well done Lady Gaga.
I must admit I was a bit sceptical about this fragrance as I know Lady Gaga to be a very bold and daring person at best. As I prefer subtle fragrances to bold fragrances. But I must say the I am quite blown away how lovely and pleasant the fragrance. It was quite strong at first spray but once aired I really liked it.
Whats more it lasted throughout the day giving me a pleasant fragrance all day.
Lady Gaga outdid herself with her new fragrance. I would recommend to anyone who likes the perfume fragrances to give it a try, you will love it, as I did
Thank you again
Anyways, once i sprayed it on, I really love the smell. It has a strong smell of floral, young happy honey, and it is deep apricot smell. It is great for evening when you go clubbing or go on a date with your man and just wanna seduce him.
The smell last for a good couple of hours. So you don't have to spray it all the time through out the day. So it is really value for money, as it is quite pricy for a small bottle, but for the long lasting smell, I think it is quite worth the price and the quality. The smell is suitable for young girls, but I think it would be a bit too strong for older women.
The bottle design does live up to Lady Gaga's style, of a naughty, bad, poison that kind of image she is trying to portray. So when you hold it in your hand, it feels like you are spraying on a secret poison weapon on your neck and waiting to be eaten.
Overall, I really like the smell of it, it reminds me to Gucci Guilty. A very seductive fragrance which makes a woman feeling very sexy and wanted. Very good Christmas present for someone special.
