SUN FACTS and SAFE SUN TIPS*

SUN FACTS:
The Global UV Index, is published daily and predicts the strength of UV rays per region on a number scale from 1-15 (least to most damaging).  Plan sun exposure accordingly and with consideration for your skin type (light/burns easily, for example).
1.    SPF measures the damage from UVB rays — the ones that cause sunburn. UVA rays, which penetrate deeply into the skin, create wrinkles and other signs of aging.
2.    Most people apply ⅓ – ½ of the suggested amount of sunscreen for the protection they are seeking.  Please make sure to use the recommended amount of product for optimal protection.

SAFE SUN TIPS
Here are some sun facts and tips to help optimize sunscreen use:

1.    Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before sun exposure to let it fully absorb.
2.    The recommended amount of sunscreen for face is about 1 teaspoon, and 1 oz (about a shot glass) for a full adult body.
3.    Reapply sunscreen generously and regularly (after 1-2 hours).  Light and sun-sensitive skins may want to apply more frequently.  Reapply more frequently if perspiring or swimming.
4.    Stay out of the sun between 10am – 2pm (especially 11:30am – 12:30pm) when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
5.    Wear protective clothing such as broad-brimmed hats, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts to reduce sun exposure.
6.    Wear sunglasses that provide 100% UV ray protection.
7.     Keep infants and small children out of direct sun and covered by protective clothing. Consult with your pediatrician about applying a sunscreen to children over 6 months of age.
