Dove Summer Glow Beauty Body Lotion

This is such an affordable way to get a healthy glow all year round. It takes a few applications to notice a difference, but it it does provide a nice sun kissed look. The best part is that it is not streaky and distributes evenly on the skin. If you are looking for a subtle tan, I can definitely recommend this one.

I have fair skin, especially my legs. The rest of my body will get tan, but not my legs! I like to use gradual tanning lotions on my legs. I tried this one a few months ago and I was satisfied with it. My only issue with it is the smell, it is really pungent. That and the sticky feeling you get after it is applied. I have to say that it doesn't stain your clothes and it really does give you a glow, a yellowy golden glow! I've never noticed streakiness or it turning orange. If you are able to look past the cons, this is a great product!

This is a very good product - I can feel definitely see a difference after the first day of putting it on - it builds an awesome natural looking tan and keep my skin feeling moisturized and healthy

I wouldn't consider my skin to be fair so I am guessing it is not the right shade for my skin tone.
Overseas they have an option for normal skin so hopefully that option will be available in SA soon.
It does moisturise well though.

I have extremely fair skin (I can get sunburn during my 15 minute commute to work!) and as I can't tan naturally, I am always in search for something to make my pasty skin look healthy.

At the price for this lotion - around R30 - I decided to give it a shot.

I did notice some change after the first application, and it built up after about 4-5 days into a nice, healthy glow. I didn't look super tanned, but I was very happy with the look I got.

Be warned: this lotion does streak if not applied correctly! When I first started using it, I applied it as I would any normal moisturising lotion, and I didn't take care to make sure that I applied it evenly. The result was ugly orangey splotches on my feet and backs of my legs. This can easily be fixed by rubbing the area with some hydrogen peroxide on a cotton pad. I must admit that even when applying carefully in small circular motions, I still did get some patchy spots, but it was easy to fix so I didn't mind too much. I think this was because I have very fair skin so it shows up more if you make a little mistake :)

I found that this lotion does have a "self-tan" smell to it, and I also felt quite sticky after applying it, so I stood in front of a fan afterwards to dry. I did not notice any marks on my white bedding however, even though I put it on about 15 mins before bed (I like to wake up with a tan!)

Pros:
- low cost
- nice gradual build-up to skin with a healthy glow
- doesn't make you look orange, even if you have very fair skin
- good moisturiser

Cons:
- has a self-tan smell
- can go streaky and patchy if not applied correctly, especially on ankles, feet, elbows etc
- feels sticky after application

All in all, I would buy it again and use it. The positives of not having lily white skin far outweigh the negatives in my mind!

My shelves at home are never without this product, I use it almost every day. In summer it keeps my tan looking healthy and in winter it gives me a tan that I never have! If you hate self-tans like I do, this is the product for you. No orangey skin or streakiness. I've also never noticed it ever damage my clothes despite putting it on right before bed at night.

I've been using it for years now, and every now and then I struggle to find it (resulting in a bit of panic!) But I always manage to find it eventually, Pick n Pay stocks it right now.

Both Johnsons and Nivea made similar products for a while but they were both discontinued, this is the only product that has stuck around so long, proving its value!

An awesome product that gradually builds up to a long lasting tan that looks natural. Really helps to even out skin tone.

I bought this product i think last year and i must say im soooooo happy its still on the shelves. its my favorite product from dove as i always battle to find and put on self tanners, i always go orange! but DOVE SUMMER GLOW IS WONDERFUL it builds up to a beauitful healthy tan its just adds beauty and freshness and gives your skin a natural glow! i just love it THANK YOU DOVE:)

I like this gradual tanner alot because it does what it promises. I like the slightly sweet smell that this product has as it reminds me of cocoa butter. The wonderful smell also lingers on your skin for a few hours before it starts to fade. The consistency is quite thick, but it rubs into the skin easily. The cream itself is quite moisturising but it does leave a bit of a sticky feeling right after application. You will also notice a slight glow or sheen on the skin as well. After a few minutes, the sticky feeling subsides and you are ready to get dressed.

It doesn't leave residue on clothes and if you wash your hands after applying the cream you won't get marks on your hands either. I think that this product is a great moisturising body cream to use even if its not for the gradual tanning effects.

I just realised I haven't reviewed this yet. :) This is my absolute favourite gradual tanner. I always have a bottle of this in my bathroom cabinet. I love using this on my legs as I have ridiculously pale skin. My fave thing is that it doesn't give off too much colour on the first application. It's very gradual and if I need some colour I will start applying it 3 or 4 days before I know I will be showing my legs. Legs usually need more applications.
I also feel the scent isn't as gross as some tanners. It doesn't have that strong biscuit smell. Bu more of a fruity sweet smell. The lotion is very lightweight and doesn't take very long to dry. It doesn't transfer onto clothes or bed sheets. It lasts for about 2-3 days before it starts fading. Hot baths and showers obviously accelerate the fading process. But overall it has a natural colour and doesn't give off too much colour, which makes it easier to apply as you won't have noticeable streaking.

Highly recommend this! I Love it.

As I am a darker skin toned person you might be wondering why I would need a gradual self tanner at all but heres my reason. I wear long pants and skirts through out most of the year which means my legs hardly ever see the sun except for the odd day at the beach or when I'm on vacation. My specific skin type darkens quite quickly in the sun and this leaves me with darker arms and face and paler legs (not a good look in a pair of shorts or a swimsuit). I've used other similar products before but this product is the best I've found so far. I use this product for a week before I plan on show my legs, twice a day. I find the smell quite pleasant like a light floral scent not at all harsh smelling like other self-tanners. It gives me a great bronzed colour thats definitely not orange or unnaturally brown. I use these few tips to ensure a good outcome:

- Exfoliate your skin well before application to prevent patchy or uneven tan
- Apply lightly to area that have drier skin like knees, elbows and ankles
- Ensure that the lotion is completely absorbed before putting on clothes (it will stain white clothes so avoid those while building up the tan)
- Wash your hands immediately after application or it will stain them

Oh and have you noticed that tanned limbs look slimmer? That about all I can say about this product. I totally recommend it.
