Create your own spa at home. Learn how to pamper yourself with these DIY beauty tips.
It’s still the month of love… and after showering all your loved ones with gifts and adoration, how about showing yourself a little love with a spa day? Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? This luxury can be very pricey though, that’s why I love to create my own spa experience at home. Added bonus: I don’t have to drive anywhere! Okay, I know for most of us a whole day is also near impossible. But everyone deserves an hour or two of me-time every now and then. Here are a few tips on how to turn your bathroom into a tranquil pamper paradise.
First take a little time to do your prep work. You want to make sure everything you will need is on hand – nothing worse than just slipping into the bath and realising that your scrub is still in the cabinet. Have lots of fluffy towels and a cup of herbal tea (or a glass of champers) ready.
Now for the setting: dim the lights, light a few scented candles, put on your favourite music and draw your bath.
I found these quick recipes for bath blends on www.kittenvixen.blogspot.com:
Citrus “Mood Lift” Bath Blend: Squeeze the juice of 1 orange, 1 lemon, 1 lime and 1 grapefruit. Put juice into a jar. Combine peels in a blender; blend until minced very fine. Add to juice. Pour as much as desired into bath water.
Calming Bath Blend:
1 drop rose oil, 1 drop chamomile oil, 2 drops sandalwood oil, 2 drops clary sage oil. Add oils to bathwater and enjoy your soak.
Sleepytime Bath Blend: 4 drops bergamot oil and 3 drops lavender oil. Add oils to bath and relax.
I can’t wait to give the Citrus Mood Lift a try!
www.realbeauty.com suggests adding a few cups of whole milk to your bath water. “The lactic acid in milk softens skin better than most super-fancy potions.”
This is a great time to show your hair some love too. Massage your favourite deep hair conditioning treatment or oil onto your hair and cover with a warm towel.
A vital part of your pamper time is a good old scrub. Now it’s up to you how you want to go about this. I prefer to exfoliate my face and body while in the bath, but if you don’t like the little granules and beads settling at the bottom of the bath, it may be best to do a quick scrub and rinse in the shower before your soak. You can also opt for a proper dry body brushing session before you get in the water.
After you’ve exfoliated your skin, it’s time to apply your favourite face mask. Put cucumber slices or teabags on your eyes… and soak. For as long as possible. This is the time to lie back, relax and breathe deeply. Give your face mask, hair treatment and bath soak time to work its magic and give your mind the time to really switch off. If your mind wonders to your grocery shopping list, stop and regroup… focus on the meadow and waterfall 😉
If you want to give your blood circulation a boost, jump into a cold shower next. Do this if you want your spa experience to leave you wide awake and ready for action. If the point of it all is some R & R that will (hopefully) result in a peaceful night’s sleep, I’d advise on skipping this step.
While your skin is still damp, apply your face cream and lather your whole body with a nourishing lotion.
Wrap yourself in a soft bath robe or put on your lounging-in-the-house outfit, take a deep breath and sigh… that was good!
