Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Knot-Out Conditioner

With all the trends that are coming up especially from OG relaxer companies like Dark and Lovely, their conditioner literally took my heart (I was a little skeptic)! This product is so thick that I would dilute it in a bigger jar to have it last longer. I would then add glycerin and use that as a leave in. It's a multi purpose conditioner in my house! A few essential oils, an olive oil and glycerin then I have a deep conditioner. I can still use it without adding anything and still reap the full effects (especially when I am in a rush)

This product has become a staple in my bathroom. Wash days have never been easier since I first purchased this product. It does exactly what it says in the name, helps take knots out. After shampooing my hair tends to become very tangled and the second this goes in my fingers can run through it. And then after keeping it in for 10 minutes (they recommend 5-15 mins depending) I am able to comb through my entire mane and detangle it completely. Although, I have to use a lot of it on my kinky hair just to feel like it's in there which makes a bottle not last as long (especially cause I use it to co-wash every week). The price and availability however, makes it easy to repurchase so I don't think I mind that much. Another thing I love is the scent, the only disappointment is the smell does not remain after it is rinsed out (but once again because of the price, I cannot complain too much)

After shampooing and rinsing with lukewarm water I put the conditioner in. I had to use quite a lot of it before I felt like my hair had enough in it.. So I decided instead to massage it in, put on a shower cap, wait 10 minutes and then apply some more and I think that helped.

I finger combed my hair in small parts and it de-tangled pretty well! I had serious knots in there so I just gently tugged with my fingers and stretched and massaged it, and the conditioner was nice and creamy and my hair smoothly detangled.

I am very happy about that beçause it gave me a headache last week. Detangling and re-twisting my hair took about 25 minutes so I left the conditioner in there for about 35 minutes total. Rinsed it thoroughly and my head feels really light and fresh and my hair is soft, stretchy, and feels strong and moisturized.. and smells really really yum.

So positives: Magic de-tangler, smells delish, feels really good.

Only negatives would be that I had to use a ton of it. I used about 10 big squeezes, about 6 cm of the bottle.. So it would go about 4 washes max. But i'd definitely use it again because detangling is a big thing for me and I would love if it was made easier.

This is one of my favourite products in the range.

I have Type 4b/c hair and because of that, I am no stranger to tangles in the hair. After washing, if I don't twist it before bed, and if I don't sleep on satin, my hair tangles.

I used this knot out conditioner almost daily with the afro butter and a little water. I then used a paddle brush and brushed my hair from tips to roots.

Before this process took me eons to finish but with the product, I took me half the time, leaving me ready for styling and slaying!

This conditioner works wonders with detangling knots. It reduces breakage and makes hair easier to comb.

This product claims to easily detangle, soften and protect hair from dryness. My first experience with this product was horrifying! I didn’t detangle my hair properly prior to shampooing and applying the conditioner (I also decided not to follow the instructions which require you to comb through your hair with a comb once you’ve applied the product- I just finger detangled). This resulted in my hair matting*. I decided to give it another try and follow the instructions this time!
After using the product the correct way I found that it did a decent job at making the detangling and adding moisture to my hair, however, this product still didn’t manage to wow me. I wouldn’t repurchase this product.

Overall this is one of my fave products in the range. It smells divinely tropical and its'value for money.

The consistency is quite thick, thicker than your average conditioner, which isn't a problem. In stead this is great for heat sealing ( put on a shower cap, add some heat to open up hair shaft for max absorption). Because it's so thick you don't need to use a large amount per wash so it lasts much longer.

After use my hair was soft, clean, clear and light-weight. Inf act I used the conditioner as shampoo for two weeks and it worked perfectly.

My hair loves/d the texture of the conditioner, more especially the fruity scent. After applying the conditioner I twisted my hair and left in conditioner in for 15 minutes. Rinsing out the conditioner my hair just felt soft and managable. I normally have a scalp reaction when I use a conditioner, but I did not have any this time.
I definitely recommend this product to those with natural ethnic hair and are in need of soft managable hair.

The fruity smell of this product really will make you fall in love with product before you even try it and at a great price it is a steal. After washing my hair with the replenishing shampoo I applied the knot out conditioner and was left a little disappointed as the produc did not provide my hair with any slip to help detangle my 4c hair as instructed on the packaging. The conditioner left my hair feeling well conditioned and soft after washing though. For best results on kinkier hair textures detangle during the pre shampoo stage of your wash day

So i wash my hair everyday and i use a lot of conditioner, A LOT! But i found with this Au Naturale Knot-Out Conditioner, i was using a lot less and still getting the moisture benefits my hair needs on a daily basis. Its such a great follow up to the Shampoo and compliments each other so well! I only needed a small handful, to have my curls feeling soft, de-tangled and full of moisture ready to tackle the day ahead with an added bounce :)

Recommended to anyone looking for a conditioner that gives your hair the added moisture it needs :)

It also contains the same oils and natural ingredients as the shampoo. At first I wasn't too impressed with this one as my hair did not respond well to it. The kinks were still there and I couldn't feel the "slip" I was expecting. I had to let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and only then my hair started softening. The end result was not outstanding but satisfactory none the less.


I do wish it came in a bigger bottle though because our hair needs a generous amount of conditioner to get the maximum effect. I have only used it twice and it's almost finished. The price is reasonable though.


Over all this product gets a 5/10

I LOVE this product. Once I started my wash-day routine, I immediately applied it after shampooing and my hair felt so soft. I proceeded to comb it with a large paddle brush, section by section. I rinsed it off and then did a cold water rinse, to find that my hair was tangle free, literally no knots and it smelled amazing.

With the price being really cheap and the product being so effective. Totally buying this again

I honestly love the Knot-Out conditioner! 1 of my top 5 at the moment, only because it goes on silky smooth, allowing me to finger detangle with no knots. That is all I need my conditioner to do, simply an easy way to condition and comb through. I love how light weight it is, with the easy to use nozzle when squeezing it out.

I love this for my daughters' hair. Her hair is prone to tangle and this helps me get rid of all the tangles. She's even started to detangle her hair herself! Even though the consistency is not that thick, it serves its purpose...NO KNOTS IN SIGHT!

I was so disappointed in the Knot-Out conditioner. It is a water-based conditioner with the same smell as the shampoo but it’s just a little faint. The conditioner is not that thick but it is creamy. I applied it to my scalp with a spray bottle and it felt like I’m spraying water on my scalp. The usage directions on the bottle state that you must leave the product on the hair for 5-15 minutes and detangle and rinse. (I’m not sure who detangles while washing their hair, when it’s wet & fragile?) But I won’t be using this product to “deep condition” . It’s not thick enough to coat my thick strands and I can see that it won’t do anything to moisturise my hair. I’ll probably mix it with water to and use it to detangle before wash day.

Before this product review I was never big on hair conditioners because I'm always short on the time for the "leave-in" conditioners but I was happy to try this out and see the whole process through. I didn't leave it in for too long, just about 10 mins but wow, when i started combing through I noticed that not much hair was coming out in clumps like what I'm used to. The conditioner was detangling my hair so nicely that it was actually a pleasure to comb through. I was so happy with that and with how soft my hair was already feeling at that stage. I love this product and I highly, highly recommend it. This is definitely going to be one of my favourates.

Day 1 Knot-out-conditioner: A very inviting scent, smells fruity and natural. I left it in my hair for 15 minutes in twists. The texture is smooth like yoghurt. When I combed through my hair, it was easy with no pulling involved. There was no itchiness as I left the conditioner in my hair for 15 minutes. I love it.
