THIS IS MY HOLY GRAIL
If coconut oil is not in your beauty kit, then do yourself a huge favour and buy yourself some.
Coconut oil has so many uses, and it's 100% natural. This miracle oil can be used topically on your hair, your nails, your skin and on your teeth. (Hello , oil pulling!) And it's amazingly beneficial when ingested, because it's a good fat. Organic virgin oil is always the best, but it's also the most expensive. You can choose the type that suits your needs. I personally have purchased a one-litre tub of the Lifestyle Foods coconut oil from Dischem, and it lasts for ages. Plus, coconut oil has a million other uses for your household, garden and food. There's honestly no reason NOT to have some coconut oil handy. It's like Vaseline: totally multi-purpose.
I've tried every brand available to me because I love this stuff that much.. As a moisturiser, there's nothing better for me. I use this on my body and hair religiously.. During winter it was a lifesaver because dry skin really plagues me at that time of year. My hair has always known coconut oil since I was a child, tnx to mom and it has benefitted tremendously.. I'm addicted to coconut oil. I particularly love the smell of it. I cook with Virgin coconut oil as well.. Such an all rounder, this gift from mother nature
I believe in oil so much that I use it on my hair AND skin on a daily basis.
It does not have much of an odour and does not leave my skin or hair feeling greasy. Unlike other oils, coconut oil can go from solid to liquid quite fast depending on the temperature that it is exposed to.
I use it as a pre-shampoo treatment because it penetrates the hair shaft well. This way I know that my hair won’t be left dry or dehydrated after I shampoo.
If your conditioner does not have enough slip, a few teaspoons of coconut oil will help with that. This will leave you with that baby soft afro feeling.
When used on the skin consistently, it can reduce the appearance of dark marks.
What I love the most about coconut oil is that is NATURAL. no fragrances and anything that could possibly irritate my skin or scalp. As everyone has mentioned this miracle product can be almost everything. This is how I use it to soften, strengthen and grow my natural hair.
1. MOISTURIZER/SPRITZER:
Because virgin changes state from liquid/solid in different temperatures it lends itself to different containers. Use an old spray bottle, melt your coconut oil in a bowl in the microwave, pour it into the spray bottle then add some warm water and voila- daily spritzer!
I use this to spray may hair almost every morning especially if I haven't done anything to it the night before. Or (secret), I carry it in my bag and spritz throughout the day when I feel heat has worn out my strands.
2. LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER:
Because this is an oil its best for moisturizing and strengthening weak strands and not leaving your scalp layered wit thick product.
After an evening wash(with conditioner) or event wetting your hair with warm water, towel dry your hair and rub some coconut oil through your hair and scalp. Tie or braid your hair into four sections to seal in moisture, wrap your head in a sating scarf and your hair is soft, stretched and strengthened the next morning.
3. FOR EVEN-TONED SKIN:
Steps:
1. Steam or wash face
2. To dry, lightly dab with a towel without completely drying it
3. Apply coconut oil
This is best done the night before, the heat from warm water opens your pores improving the absorption potential of the coconut oil.
Result: Soft skin, improved appearance of black heads and improved skin tone
One of my earliest memories of childhood is of coconut oil lol, thats how small I was when my mom started using it on my hair. Years later it is still something that I never run out off. We all know by now the many wonders of coconut oil ,it's even included in my beauty regiment.
I've tried various brands over the years and thumbs up to all of them. The one I'm currently using is from the Dabur vatika brand. I use it once a week, massaging it into my hair and scalp really well then wash off the next morning. It makes such a difference to my hair ,I can really see and feel how healthy it makes it. Over time it's said to improve thickness, something that I'm looking forward too and will keep you updated on that.
The uses for coconut oil are endless!
I bought one tub of virgin coconut oil and I use it for everything from cooking to hair!
Its a beauty secret that I cant believe I didnt know of sooner! I use it as a hair mask once a week for damaged hair and to promote hair growth. I also mixed a few spoons in a spray bottle with water and salt for an amazing beach waves spray!
I know there are shampoos and treatments that contain coconut oil but I find the raw, real thing much better and cheaper!
Its great directly on skin as a moisturiser and as a make up remover - its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal so it wont block pores!
And it smells great too!
Coconut oil is definitely a staple in my hair regimen especially now that I have decided to transition to natural hair. It keeps my new growth soft to minimize breakage and I love that it is a multi purpose oil. I use it on my face as well:)
I am a natural hair gurl who wears weaves as a protective hair style. The coconut oil is great for my hair line...it stays in tact.
It is also great for doing an oil rinse, especially if you hair is natural.
My partner had thin hair that was impossible to grow, we used this product and now you would swear he was born with good hair.
I enjoy using the coconut oil which is unscented. Its great for both skin and hair. On cold days I just pop in microwave to soften and it works well with other items in my beauty routine.
Listen, I was so doubtful when I started using coconut oil but I am so grateful that I didn't listen to my negative self. I use Coconut oil on my daughter's hair, my hair, I melt it and mix it with my body lotion, I take off my make-up with it, I COOK with it. Amazing product to have. The only one I do not like is the fragranced one as the smell is overpowering for me! Coconut oil is a definite must have house hold product.
I love the many use of Coconut Oil, I use it for my 2daughters hair and myself. Underarm, dry heels in winter and for cooking. Every household should have this product
I bought this mainly for oil pulling and I found that it did not work as well as I had seen online yet I was too afraid to try again (of course the results get better the more times you attempt it). I used the basic method of oil pulling where you melt the oil and use it like mouthwash. I lasted 11 minutes before the thought of all my spit expanding in my mouth freaked me out enough that I had to stop! I did not notice an immediate difference but that evening I had an EXCRUCIATING headache - which in itself was awful but the coconut oil is supposed to pull out toxins from your body and clearly it had done that job.
I have not yet used this oil on my hair, but I hear it works miracles. Personally I find it to be amazing when used as a lip balm and for frying veggies :)
Consistanty/smell: liquid form on warmer days and solid on colder days. light coconutish smell
Price: About R50 for a 1lt (Quinns Brands @ Spar)
I am so in love with coconut oil. I use it face, body and hair. It's great :)
Face routine: I wash my face at night and then I massage a small amount onto my face, I've seen a great difference and the dark circle under my eyes are much lighter. My face feel moisturized and soft with a nice glow.
Body routine: I apply a small amount under my armpits after I bath and there the dark marks have really lighten. I also use it after I shave, makes it really soft and relieves the burning.
Hair routine: I prepoo with coconut oil, so basically I heat up some coconut oil and massage it into my scalp and the length of my hair before each wash, I put on a plastic cap for about an 1hour. I then rinse my hair and shampoo, then I add a little more coconut oil to my deep conditioner or normal conditioner and let that sit for about 30 minutes. I rollerset and apply a little again. On dry hair I apply coconut oil to the length of my hair each time I moisturize. My hair is softer, stronger, longer and healthier than ever.
Would I buy it again: Hell YES !! I love this stuff. It's so versitile that it can be used for anything
Coconut oil is so awesome you can use it for many things and it is really good for your health.
I personally use it every night and massage it into my scalp it gives great results for hair growth and it leaves my hair looking healthy! Another thing I use it for is to remove my make up works like a bomb. Also much more healthier to use coconut oil for cooking your food.
Coconut oil is a wonder product for moisturising skin and hair, but it's also makes a major difference in treating eczema.
I've suffered from eczema all my life and I've been worried about the effects of using creams containing cortisone on my skin. Cortisone is known to thin the skin, but coconut oil provides an all-natural alternative. Rub coconut oil on affected areas before bed, leave it on overnight and you'll soon see results.
WARNING: It can stain sheets, so use the 'less is more' method or use an old sheet.
Not only for cooking, Coconut oil works wonders when used as a conditioner, i also use it all over my body before i go to bed.
When using as a conditioner or treatment it may be best to use when you wont be seeing anyone the next day, i found after using it and washing it out, it was sort of oily until the next wash, after my second wash my hair was in the best condition it had been in ages.
when i use it on my skin, my skin has this glow about it the next day (totes devine, but it oil, so beware)
No need to use the expensive coconut oil (extra Virgin) you can purchase a small 100ml at a pharmacy, i paid R13 for mine. and then i buy the better quality for cooking with (which is incredible)
Ok, first let me tell you that coconut oil is a WONDER PRODUCT. Not only can you eat it and cook with it BUT you can use it for your beauty needs as well, hair body nails, coconut oil has a use.
For my hair I like to apply coconut oil at night, wrap my hair in a disposable shower cap and sleep with my hair like thirst, in the morning I do a double shampoo and condition and wash all the remnants away. If you don't have the time to do that you can apply to your hair leave for 20-30 minutes while blowing hot air from a hair dryer onto it and then wash out.
This leaves your hair silky, smooth and shiny, it's my favorite way to use coconut oil.
For nails and hands you can use coconut oil in place of hand cream or cuticle oil, in fact it is so good for your hands and nails because it is one hundred percent natural!
For your face/ body, you can use coconut oil to treat acne, eczema, pigmentation, and many more. It is perfect for applying just after your bath but like most oils will take a while to soak into you skin. Don't forget a little goes a long way. It is great as an all over body moisturizer and leaves your skin feeling supple and smooth, with a healthy glow.
Coconut oil is a God sent, it is extemely beneficial to the hair and aids in hair growth and health as well!! I am 100% sold on the amazing results I have achieved by using this oil! If your not using it yet? Why???? It FABULOUS
it is one of the only oils that are able to penatrate the hair shaft anf create glorious locks :)
Recently I have been searching for a conditioner which would make my hair healthy and strong without making it look oily.
A friend told me to try coconut oil and see what happens.
Whats the worst that could happen? I tried it and well, the worst that could happen was that I could get completely mesmerised by the results...and the worst did indeed happen...which was also the best.
After using once, I could feel and see an enormous improvement. It also added to giving my hair more volume.
Researching coconut oil for hair, I found some of the following problems CO could be a solution for:
?Dry hair;
?Split ends
?.Fly aways (also known as baby hair)
?it helps hair grow faster
?hair with tendency to break
?hair that falls out easily
With all of those perks, why wouldn't you try it? And guess what.......it doesn't make your hair oily at all!
So now ask yourself...do you want perfect hair, or are you simply going to ignore this article? ;)
Lots of lovies!
