Easing my skin into a routine
Price: R305

So to be quite honest, before writing my skin care articles, I had never had a skin routine. I guess that I battle to stick past the "adjustment" period but have decided that I need to start making changes, for the future me. I thought it would be best that I don't go rushing out and buy an entire skin care regime just for my skin to react badly and then be stuck with cupboards full of useless products. Instead, I have decided that I will introduce products slowly to my skin and start with sample sizes, to ensure I am getting the right products before buying full sizes.

My first product that I have introduced is Clarins, One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser. The reason that I have chosen this product to start my introduction is pretty simple. I recently have been exfoliating my body with sugar scrubs and saw the dramatic difference within my first week. My research into skin care said that exfoliation is only necessary once-a-week and I guess that I would much rather start with introducing once-a-week patterns before going all twice-a-day mad. I had managed to collect quite a few samples of this product from the Clarins counter, and am now on my third week of use. Running my fingers over my face I can feel how much smoother and supple my skin feels. I have combination skin so have oily parts around my t-zone, and am dry around my eyes and cheeks. I suffer with flaky, dead skin cells, around my hair-line, which can be a royal pain when you are trying to apply a smooth foundation. I am happy to announce that this imbalance is a thing of the past, my hair line is flake free while the rest of my skin has seemed to even out. The results were not all that noticeable on the first use, but on the second I started feeling that my skin was smoothing out and the oil build-up was not as prominent . Today, is my third weekly use, and I can confidently say that my skin has adjusted so well. It has more elasticity in it, it feels soft to the touch and doesn't have that tightness after washing.

The cleanser is something I would recommend to new users as the exfoliating beads are so tiny, so it doesn't feel like wet sand paper to the skin. After wetting my face, I use my finger tips to gently rub the product all over, paying special attention to the drier parts. It does not create a soapy foam but you can definitely feel the gel on your face. After spending sufficient time in smoothing the gel all over my face, I wash it off with warm water. I then towel dry, by patting my face (not rubbing) and have now started applying a moisturizer, to top it all off. In my opinion, I would not use this as a daily cleanser as the exfoliation may be too much and I would want something that will remove my makeup at the same time. But for now, I am happy using this as a weekly treat to my skin!
