This is another Mascara review of those that I received in the hamper I won through Beauty Bulletin. I have used the Bourjois 1001 Lashes Black Quartz Mascara which is one of my favourites, so my expectations for this mascara were set very high.
My Experience:
I was rather puzzled by the wand. It is long and rather big in size then has lots of very short rubber bristles that I personally did not really like. Because they are so short I find it difficult to get them to grip each lash. The formula also seems to gather in certain areas on the wand (which you can see in the photoI attached) and that means that you battle to get an even coating of the formula onto each lash. The ends of my lashes seemed to catch onto those clumps of formula and I had to remove the excess from my lashes with a tissue. Usually when I take photos for mascara reviews I don't correct the lashes before taking the picture, but this time I had to take the excess off because I didn't want to risk getting any product into my eyes. That being said though, once you get use to the wand you are able to achieve a beautifully defined look with 1 coat, when I apply a second coat there is a bit of clumping that occurs (which you can again see in the photo I attached). The lashes can easily be separated with a dry wand afterwards.
What I like:
I like the tube a lot, not just because of the colour, but because it stands up easily by itself so you don't battle with pooling of the product inside the tube. When tubes lie flat it takes a bit more time to get the formula on the wand which exposes the formula to air for a longer time than what is necessary. The life of the mascara is seriously reduced when exposed to air and this is when terrible lumps form within the formula. Once on your lashes, the mascara is long lasting and looks good throughout the day. It also washes off very easily with just a bit of face wash and warm water.
What I don't like:
As mentioned before, I am not fan of the wand.
Verdict:
It's not a terrible mascara but personally I wouldn't purchase this once the tube I have runs dry. I'd much rather stick to the Bourjois 1001 Lashes Black Quartz Mascara (RSP: R119.95).
