The ultimate makeup applicator sponge is the original. There is no dupe. There's nothing that matches the natural-looking finish this sponge gives you.

If you don't already own a BeautyBlender you're probably wondering whats the big hype around it, isn't it yet another makeup sponge? The famous bright pink egg-shaped sponge (other colours are available) is much known for the ability to transform the way you apply makeup. The key to its success lies in its soft & plump texture when compared to other makeup sponges on the market.
The BeautyBlender's egg shaped design is ideal for blending in both large and small surfaces, unlike other sponges that leave lines and streaks upon application the beauty blender's coverage looks natural and uniform.
How to use the beautyblender :
Dampen the sponge before you use it. The brand says the beauty blender's "open cell structure" means the sponge has minimum water retention and won't absorb your makeup. I recommend using either a liquid or cream foundation and first applying it onto another surface for the best application. The key is to use a "bouncing" motion to achieve a more natural looking coverage and this is where the beauty blenders light weight texture comes into play.
PROS:
Lightweight sponge allows for natural-looking makeup application.
Reduces the amount of time it takes to apply foundation.
Easy to clean and re-use
One word "WoW" this is a must have in your cosmetic bag. It's the best blender I have ever ownes ...After I met the blender no more wedges and less brushes in my bag ...its not just affordable but I feel like it's worth it ...not just affordable but unperishable ...I love this cos I don't use alot of make up but when I do, its to the mininum and it does not absorb my makeup just need a drop and blend all over and my ultimate advantage to this product it gets to anywhere and everywhere on skin without smudging, hurting, damaging the skin and not forgetting all the hard to reach places like the corner of eye etc ... and yes of cos I just love the hot pink colour and texture of my blender I can own millions of this blender and never disown it. It's just perfect for me and any other woman it's small, compact, can fit any kind of bag so NO excuses not to buy and leaves a flawless touch to the skin ...must have#... :)
Do yourself a favor and save for this sponge. NO OTHER SPONGE COMES CLOSE. Please listen to me when I say that this is the real deal. Yes it costs a bit much but the flawless makeup is worth it. I have the pure blender and the pink one and I use both for my foundation and concealer. It does not soak up product, it literally moves it around to achieve an even cover that you need! Plus they're so darn cute.
Foundation needs to be applied right to look great, the spong acts better than the foundation brush. Dabbing gently onto the skin is all I do. The size is perfect, its really easy to clean too. It absorbs some of the foundation, unlike if you use your fingers. Foundation, concealer, highligher and illuminating powder are great for it.
Ah...the original.
I had been using dupes for a while before my friend brought me the original from the US and I was in love.
Unlike the cheap alternatives from Dischem which can be quite hard, the original is light and fluffy. It expands quite a bit when it is wet but I don't use it wet, just a little damp.
My only issue with these products in general is that they are not easy to clean. I've seen some pretty disgusting makeup sponges in some makeup bags!!!
Beauty blenders are by far my most favourite make up tool to have. Being a make up artist it makes my life and job so much easier. Simple and easy to use , glides on my skin and removes all harsh lines. Love it for contouring xx
I got the original beautyBlender in black as a gift and I instantly fall in love with it. It is easy to use and gives a flawless finish plus you can use it for multiple purposes, so instead of having several brushes, just one beautyblender can be used for foundation, concealer and setting powder. Just dampen it and start dabbing! It is also quit easy to clean afterwards. Just some soap or shampoo will do the trick.
The price can be a bit for much for some people, but I personally think that it is affordable and worth having.
I really recommend it to all those, who are looking for that flawless and dewy finish. Using brushes doesn't always give that perfect finish, I always felt like I had a ton of product on even though I hadn't, but BeautyBlender totally solved that issue for me.
I've used dupes for the original beauty blender and must admit I still prefer the original. There is a reason its a staple tool in every great makeup artists set and mine.
Its lightweight, fluffy and soft which I prefer when working with this tool. I would recommend this to everyone, especially those with more dry skin (as the application is more gentle on your skin).
How to use:
It's recommended to slightly dampen the beautyblender before you use it. The brand says the beautyblender's "open cell structure" allows it to fill up with water, which means the sponge is full and will absorb minimal foundation.
For the best application, use a liquid foundation. Dampen and apply foundation (back of your hand or glass surface). Then dip the beautyblender into the makeup, and apply it to the face, quickly dab or bounce the sponge (this is where the lightweight texture comes in). Since the sponge is so soft and material so smooth, there's little "resistance" when you bounce on your makeup onto your face—the result of which is a more natural-looking coverage.
Beauty blender was created without edges in order to eliminate visible lines and streaks. Its shape also helps with getting into the hard to reach areas (under eyes, corner of the eyes).
Whether you're a pro or novice, the Beauty Blender has to be an iconic product for every woman who wears makeup! I have tried different textures of foundations and it works like a dram delivering flawless results every time. Simply dot your foundation, and pat the BB everywhere. Voila! You are done.
I received this as a gift from a friend who lives abroad.
Probably the best item I've received/purchased for myself in years.
I prefer natural looking makeup and rarely use anything other than my fingers to apply my makeup. I was pleasantly surprised when I first used this product. My foundation application was flawless! I was streak free and I could choose just how thinly/thickly I wanted to apply my makeup.
The beauty blender is also perfect for applying powders. I use mine specifically to set my under eye and forehead area.
I usually HATE using sponges to apply my foundation because it feels like it sucks up all my make up and leaves nothing on my face.
BUT...
I am absolutely in love with the beauty blender. It has a really soft feel and rubber like texture. It doesn't suck up your foundation and blends it perfectly on your skin. No more finger smudges. No more uneven make up application! Doesn't that sound great?
Plus, it lasts a really long time and can be washed.
I've had mine for about 3 months now and it still looks like the day I bought it.
Really the only liquid foundation application tool you need.
If you haven't given this a chance, DEFINITELY go out and buy yourself one.
I wasn't big into applying my foundation with anything other than my own fingers for the longest time. Then I tried out the Real Techniques sponge and it was just so fantastic at applying and blending my foundation.
I finally got my hands on a Beauty Blender, and I have to say it's definitely worth the hype and the money. It blends like a dream, and my foundation looks so flawless!
Even though this product is a little pricey, It's definitely worth coughing up the extra cash. This nifty little blending sponge helps you reach the tricky places and it gives you a matte, even finish when applying foundation. It also works great for contouring.
Beauty Blenders are unfortunately quite expensive and difficult to get hold of in SA. If you can get your hands on one, it is well worth the money. I haven't tried anything to date (Incl Real Techniques Sponge) that quite comes to the effect you get with a Beauty Blender. It gives you a smooth airbrushed appearance and blends foundation and concealer like a dream. If I only have to have one beauty tool, chances are very good for me to pick the Beauty Blender.
Albeit expensive, the real BeautyBlender is amazing!!!! Used damp, it helps to make the foundation look like a second skin and it is great for setting your under-eye concealer or pressing powder into the face.
There are a ton of dupes for this product (which I have not tried) but I always think it's better to go with the real thing. I will get my hands on one of the cheap ones and do a comparison at some stage.
I found one at checkers for R29!!! I should have bought two cause it's actually amazing! great for getting in by the nose and it feels good holding it :) I never got along the those triangle sponges. Really worth getting one!!
The Beauty Blender Sponge (R299.99) itself is a whole other ball game. At first I was too afraid to use it, yes sad I know but I was waiting for the “right time”. I glanced at the history and the instructions on the back and saw that one must wet it before its first use. So obviously the above pic was taken prior to it being used.
It really is worthy of the hype and praise. I have always used a combination of a sponge and a brush to apply my foundation and never thought simply using a sponge would create such a flawless effect. I often find that application with a brush alone is too heavy and a sponge draws up too much foundation diminishing the coverage. The Beauty Blender is the perfect balance.
I don't believe this product is a necessity but it is nice to have. It makes applying foundation or BB cream pretty easy, especially when it comes to the areas around the nose and eyes. I also find that I use less product because it helps to spread things evenly.
My only issue is with the price. It's far too expensive for such a simple product. Especially when the likes of Woolies stocking a very similar product at a fraction of the cost and it works just as well.
I can't imagine applying foundation with anything else besides my beauty blender. It took me a while to try to this out as I thought the previous sponges were doing a good job, I stand corrected. These are amazing, takes applying foundation to a new level for me. The flawless finish I achieve with this beauty blender is unmatched. I got mine from dischem and it is a dupe but it works amazing and as good as the original which is way to expensive for my liking.
I love that it gets into all the curves and edges of my face and the fact that it doesn't absorb too much of my foundation. I use a cream foundation, haven't yet tried it with a liquid one.
A friend of mine bought these for me last year on my birthday. I really don't know how my life was before I had the beauty blenders. They are just awesome. Make-up tools must have.
I totally love beauty blenders!!! Checkers sells them for like R30 and its a great price for the quality often the sponge. It has such a beautiful texture and really helps my foundation to look flawless
The craze of the Beauty Blender is currently in full swing - especially online. After seeing the ravings about this product on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, I decided to look it up. The actual Beauty Blender can only be found in Sandton in South Africa, but it can be ordered online for R350 excluding shipping costs.
This seems a little steep for a make up sponge.
However, there are a few other "dupes" that can be found at Clicks and Dischem ranging from R30 - R50 and I find they work brilliantly. They are a little difficult to clean, but they are soft in texture and are instrumental for me when applying concealer under the eyes and blending my foundation in. It really helps to create that "flawless finish" that everyone talks about.
I prefer beauty blender then brushes, it blends my foundation amazingly!!! I haven't used the original I opt for the dupes that find at clicks at dischem for around R30 works well for me
It blends my concealer very well with any make up be it liquid or matte or powder. Works wonders , works like magic every lady should own one especially if you use make up regularly.
It's very very cheap makes it affordable. I bought it from Clicks!
After finally purchasing a real Beauty Blender I can honestly say that I may NEVER go back to brushes! The application is perfection and you look airbrushed and mattified. As well as using a lot less foundation on your skin you also waste a lot less foundation and your bottle which once lasted a month will now last you a few more weeks.
I have seen people comment that you need to damped the blender before applying the product as it uses less product that way but I never wet my blender and it works just as well.
You can purchase these from Clicks, online, Pick n Pay etc etc. A REAL branded Blender costs about R300 and has to be imported but I would recommend the Clicks Blender Baby for only R87.
I bought myself a beauty blender @ Dischem, which works just as wonderfully as the original. The only difference is that the Dischem one is not as soft as the original and not as expensive, as it is under R30. And just like the original, it does not absorb your foundation and blends perfectly.
I got the set with the cleanser, you are told to run water over the blender until it doubles in size, and trust me it does get big, then you squeeze excess water out, and then apply you foundation! Absolutely no streaks and went on quick compared to a foundation brush, however when I tried to clrnse it using the provided blender cleanser I couldn't get all the foundation off
Rubybox has a special runninh on the beauty blender and cleanser for under R400 bucks, use your ruby Rands to get it even cheaper
I am SO happy I jumped onto this bandwagon. I LOVE MY BLENDER!!! I bought the R87 one from Clicks and it works amazingly well. I am sure the original Beauty Blender works even better but this one is fantastic. It leaves your skin flawless and you do not waste any foundation at all. A MUST!
My favourite thing about the Beauty Blender is the flawless, airbrushed finish, that it gives to my foundation. I have never achieved such a natural effect with any other applicator before.
I also love that it works with all liquid products- foundation, highlighter, concealer and cream blush. I love applying my MAC 'Lady Blush' cream blush with it. If you find cream blushers tricky to apply, which they often are, then definitely give the Beauty Blender a go- it blends colour beautifully and gives a natural, seamless finish. A glow from within!
It's really easy to use. You have to dampen the sponge, and it will expand to twice its original size. If you were to use the sponge dry, it would just absorb all of the product. I like to apply a pump of my foundation onto the back of my hand, dot it around my face (more in the areas that need it most) and blend it out with the Beauty Blender. The sponge is very soft and bouncy- i use a 'bouncy'/patting motion when blending foundation with it- i find it really fun to use! The pointed tip is perfect for concealer, and getting into any hard-to-reach areas, such as around the nose and eyes. The larger base, is great for areas like the cheeks, where i need more coverage, or for applying cream blush. I also like to roll the sponge along the jawline to blend my foundation with my neck.
You will need to use more product with the Beauty Blender- it does sheer out foundation a little. I often use 2 1/2 pumps with the Beauty Blender rather than my typical 2 pumps without the BB. Although you may have to use more product, the results are so worth it- the natural, flawless finish is unbeatable and i have never achieved the same effect with anything else.
What a useful item! Fahdila has summarized this product brilliantly and it's her review that prompted me to get one of my own! It doesn't drink up ur foundation , can be used wet or dry and enables you to get around ur nose and inner eyes beautifully! I used to think foundation brushes were the best but i always had to use my concealer brush for the smaller areas! This does it all! It's changed foundation application for me!
I personally believe this is a must have for any beauty bag which contains foundations - mousse or liquid!! This pear shaped latex sponge is amazing, it doesn't absorb any of the make up.. A tiny drop is used and dotted all over the face and neck, then blended with this sponge for a smooth, seamless and natural finish... Cleaning is pretty easy and effortless, damp the sponge - apply a drop of shampoo - rinse - squeeze, then it's just like new again.. Natural yet full coverage looks obtained so easily :)
After seeing Mario Dedivanovic, Kim Kardashian's make up artist using the Beauty Blender, I immediately wanted one for myself. Thanks to beautique.co.za I managed to get one on sale, and I have to say the overall experience was worth all my searching! I LOVE IT! It's easy to use, easy to clean and gives you a flawless finish.
First use was a bit tricky, I used powdered foundation and wet the blender too much, which caused me to use too much foundation and made it look as though it was pasty. I quickly learned with the right amount of moisture and foundation I could obtain the flawfless finish it promises.
Its economical in the sense that when you use liquid based foundations, you use less foundation and this makes it go a long way.
The only negative is that it needs to be replaced every 3 months!
