AVON Eye Shadow and Eyeliner
HotMy overall impressions of the Avon Eight in One Colour Palette: firstly let me start by saying I had a lot of fun playing around with different looks and experimenting with these fabulous colours. And the fact that they are metallic colours and therefore lend themselves to a night look as opposed to day, I had licence to go a little crazy on the creative side as I did with my second look (the peacock). The quality is impressive and the colours are beautiful and visible. And add to that the affordability factor. Packed in a sleek and shiny black case with eight eye shadow colours, the product looks chic and is easy to open. The eight flattering colours: black, silver, mauve, brown, blue, gold, turquoise and peach. My favourites are the black and the brown…I create such a beautiful smoky eye with these two colours, I do it as often as I can. Each is highly blendable and they last on the eye lid (although I would still recommend you use an eye primer prior to application of the shadows). The shadows have a beautiful shimmery finish that compliment a dewy/glowy skin – and still don’t give that look of being shiny or too glittery. The colour just goes on with ease and I usually don’t have to re-apply it throughout the night (used with a lid primer). The only thing I didn’t like about it was the provided applicators. I found that they were too small for certain techniques I employed or that they didn’t blend well enough. I opted to use my own eye brushes instead and the result was beautifully enhanced eyes everytime. The Glimmerstick Eyeliner: Blackest black which is exactly how I like my eyeliner. I am not really one for going all wild with different coloured eyeliners – I simply stick to the idea that with all the coloured eye shadow, I certainly don’t need coloured eyeliner too. This Glimmerstick is by far the best eyeliner I have ever used – no exaggeration. It is creamy but lasts for the better part of the day. It has rich colour – I mean, the black is seriously black and you can see it. It’s vibrant. I love that, Again, like the eye shadow, no need for re-application unless of course you are going for the Taylor Momsen racoon look. Oh…and that it’s not a pencil eyeliner that needs to be sharpened was a great bonus for me! The problem I had with the Glimmerstick though is that the tip after use becomes rounded…so if you are looking to draw on a fine line, you’d have to hold the pen at an angle to create a thinner line. And although it’s staying power is impressive for the bigger chunk of the day, it does tend to smudge a tad especially at the outer corner of the eye if you are one that loves the cat eye like I do.
User reviews
I did not like the applicators that much, so I used my own. The Avon applicators are slightly pointed, which I prefer to the rounder ones. It makes it easier to apply in a specific way. They were just a bit hard for my taste.
The shadow went on well and had really great staying-power. I am a vocalist in a band and tend to jump around quite a bit on stage and it get very hot. But, this awesome makeup did not fade, smudge or crease. Very impressive. I have only included 2 looks, but there are so many more as one can experiment to your heart's content.
Oh, I know this is bad, but when I get home at 3am after a gig, I don't always clean your face first (at least, I don't always) So, this makeup was on from 8pm to 8am the next day - how's that for great?! It was just as perfect the next day.
The black Glimmerstick is also a favourite of mine and I've been using it for many years - well worth the money and a good all-rounder. . I also have a dark brown one at home that I sometimes use on my blonde brows. (Works very well at an angle)
The colours ranges from light shades to dark which is perfect personally i dont like dark shades so my lighter shaeds is always first to run empty. The shadow itsself stays on for the whole day and is easily removed with the Avon make up remover. The glimmerstick is the only sticks i use i have plum, midnight blue and green from Avon the Black is always the one i see to have two of its soft, smooth slides on easily no tears at all. i would recommend this to any female.
hald way throught he day clean old liner with make up
There are 8 colours in the eyeshadow palette that range from a light pinky highlight colour to a dark shimmery black colour. They are all very blend-able and buildable. They give smooth application and are very pigmented. The yellow colour is the least pigmented and the black is the least blend-able colour. The shadows are all long-lasting and I don't experience much fallout with them. It's super handy having so many colours in one palette and popping them in your handbag or travel bag is super easy. Most of the colours are quite daring and probably best suited to those girls that like drama. These work best in my opinion for a night on the town, but like I said you can experiment with all the colours and you can create subtle everyday looks as well. The colours aren't insanely metallic or shimmery so they can actually work for a daytime look.
My fave colour in the palette is definitely the soft, nude shimmery pink. it's so beautiful and works perfectly as a highlight for either the brow bone or the inner corner. I also like sweeping it across my whole lid and wearing it with a bit of liner and a lick of mascara.
The glimmerstick is right up my alley. It's creamy and glides on smoothly. It's intensely black and works nicely on your upperlash line as well as your waterline. The liner is relatively long-lasting. It doesn't really budge and dries quite fast. The only problem/issue I have is that you can't sharpen it and it does become a bit blunt after a few uses, so your line isn't as precise as it was the first time.
The metallic eye shadow colour palette covers all your eye shadow needs from light to dark and base coat to top coat. It will seamlessly transcends from day to evening make-up.
The eyeliner Blackest Black glides on easily and I must say even with wiping my eyes a few times, both the eyeliner and the eye shadow stayed on for hours.
I have used the light bone colour with plum on my right eye and the light grey and charcoal colour on my right eye as shown in the pic.
Personally I think it is a good, cost-effective buy with variety and staying power.
ONE BIG CON for me though is that after years of promises of changing policies, Avon is still testing their products on animals, according to the PETA list. Yes a lot of the other large cosmetics companies are also doing this, but it is about time that the consumers take a stand against this.
The colour pallet comes in a variety of colours, ranging from soft nude to black. so there is a colour for every mood and the best part is that its compact, so you can store it at home or in your handbag on the run.
I have been using the product for the past 2 weeks. and the results are great, even without an eye shadow primer, the colour stays on all day with limited fading.
Pair with the Avon glimmer stick for great smokey eye.
Avon products can be bought online or through an Avon Representative.
Price is very reasonable: Colour Pallet R99 and the glimmerstick R89.
Quality: one of the top ranked cosmetic lines, so the quality is great.
I be interested to try another shade of the Glimmerstick Eyeliner or perhaps rather a Kohl Eyeliner as, for me, the Blackest Black is too intense, as I have a fair complexion. Overall really fabulous products.
I really like the new colours, i have a deep skin tone and although it was a metallic palette the swatches did not look over the top. I did not use the applicators which came with the shadow as it did not give me enough coverage, instead i used my ring finger and eyeshadow brush which gave me a much more vibrant and rich texture. The shadow lasted a whole day of college, and then some without fading. Overall it is a good product which i would recommend to anyone that loves wearing shadows and would purchase it again as the colours really would blend with all skin tones, personally i would wear metallics only at night...
The glimmerstick is one of the best eyeliners i have tried. My main problem with eye liners in the past is that they smudged and would leave my eyes with dark circles for days!!! its true. This liner is smooth, it just glides on and comes in an applicator which is even more better. The glimmerstick again lasted the whole day and is waterproof as well. no more dark circles! This is my favourite product at the moment, and am already considering buying other colours.
I did not like the eye shadows so much, but only because I am not a very big fan of metallic colours, I like matt colour eye shadows. But on the other hand I have to admit when I used it just to see how it is, I actually liked it and it stays on for quite a few hours and doesn't fade very easy.
So overall I was very pleased with my review products
What I liked the most about it was the quality of the crayon eyeliner. I used this to create a great natural but smokey eye look and it stayed for most of the day and there was very little smudging. I also love the fact that its a roll up liner as I hate sharpening and losing most of the liner from breaking off during sharpening. The blackest Black shade was exactly what it said it was and it helped bring out my eyes when I used it. The packaging was also very great and the lid stays tightly capped on and this helps avoid the messiness caused by a loose cap that comes out whilst in the bag and turns everything black.
What I didn't like about the glimmer stick was the fact that it smudged a bit as my skin became oilier during the day but as I said previously its minimal smudge. Otherwise this was a great product through and through.
The 8 in 1 metallic palette
What I loved about most about this palette was the fact that it came in 8 very bold as well as natural colors and this comes in handy when I wanted to change from a natural look in the day and transform into a bold night out look. My favourite was the black, silver and bronze pallets as I use these for my everyday look when I go to work. The bold ink blues and pale aqua blue as well as the mustard and yellow were also great for achieving a night out in the town look. I also loved the mirrors on the pallet as these made it easier for application of my makeup and I could see exactly what I was doing. I loved the fact that there were two brushes to apply with.
What I didn't like was the fact that there was only one shade of a color in each palette which made it difficult to create some of the looks I am used to creating with the same shade but different tones of colors.
All in all this was a great pallet of colors.
