Gentlemen prefer blondes, or so the age-old saying goes! And aren’t blondes supposed to have more fun? If Mother Nature hasn’t blessed you with golden or platinum locks, you may want to colour your hair to test out these theories!
Before you head off to the salon or dash off to Dischem to buy some hair-dye, make sure that you are going to be colouring your hair in a shade that will flatter your features and suit your skin tone.
The right colour blonde will draw attention to your eyes, enhance your complexion and draw attention away from any imperfections. What suits your BFF or your favourite celeb, may not suit you, if you happen to fall into a different skin tone category. So, be warned!
How do you figure out which skin tone you have? This can be easily determined by holding up a piece of silver jewellery and then a piece of gold jewellery against your skin. The piece that appears the brightest and stands out the most will indicate which skin tone you have.
Warm-toned skins are those skins that show up the gold piece of jewellery best. Another trick is to look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If the veins show up purplish, then you know you have warm tones in your skin. Hair colours with gold, yellow, orange and red as a base will be the most flattering.
Warm-toned ladies will look gorgeous with light honey blonde, golden or strawberry blonde hair. Make sure to avoid ash blonde as the ash colour will drain the colour from your face. And you will look ashen!
If silver jewellery looked better against your skin, then you know you have cool-toned skin. The veins on the inside of your wrist will show up greenish. Hair colours with blue, violet, green and neutral bases will suit cool-toned skins better.
Cooler -toned ladies can go for ash blonde or platinum shades without fear of looking ashen, but “cool” ladies should avoid yellow tones as this could cause you to look sallow and jaundiced! Never a good look! Silver and platinum streaks will also look stunning with this skin-type.
So ladies, I hope I have given you some guidelines to follow, before you take that big step and go out and give yourself that blonde makeover. If you do take the plunge, please let us know if you ever managed to answer the questions of whether blondes really do have more fun and whether you got more attention from the gentlemen!
