Ladies how many of you are loving the dip-dye ombre hairstyle trend? I must admit I was not a fan in the beginning at all, someone told me it looks like a skunk!
It so happened that in January 2011 I had a full head of highlights done when I was back home in Zimbabwe and when I returned to CT I didn’t have the money to maintain the re-growth so I had my hair all died one colour (brown) as the months went by the colour slowly changed to more of an ORANGE colour, yes you heard correctly I was rocking a carrot top! My hairdresser warned me if I add any more dye on top of what was there it could break as it was so badly damaged from the highlights, he assured me as it grew out I would love it and be in fashion for summer having lighter ends begrudgingly I took his advise I had no choice really I did not want to be bald!
I must admit he was correct, it grew out nicely and I wanted the ends lighter so I decided to do some research about doing it yourself etc. Here is my experience:
Firstly what you will need is blue bleach, I am not sure where this is available I found mine in a salon for Ethnic hair in Mowbray for about R25 which was more than enough, they also have the peroxide there for R15.
I mixed the blue bleach with the peroxide
I applied it onto the ends of my hair
I left this on for a full 45 mins it then turned out like this:
I then did it a second time for 30 mins and it tuned out like this:
I then did it a third time a few days later I added it again for another 30 mins to get this:
I am enjoying it quite a lot, I am definitely finding my ends are very dry I think this is also my fault as I use Head & Shoulders which is not the best for dyed hair (not sure why they discontinued the one for dyed hair!) I also think on longer hair it looks a lot nicer, I am now on a quest to grow my hair so I am not cutting it for 6 months as it only grows +- 1cm a month I can’t afford to lose all that growth every 3months for a cut! Let me know if you have the Ombre hairstyle.
