Its party season and invites to year-end functions, Christmas parties and weddings are streaming in, so here is the perfect beauty tip. Sounds fabulous, doesn’t it? With the party season and the warmer weather, come bare arms and legs. Just the thought of showing my pasty pale limbs in public makes me cringe.
What is a girl to do?? No time to soak up some rays. Self-tan is the next best thing… but what if your skin is too sensitive? I have eczema-prone skin and there is something in tanning lotions (creams, sprays, etc.) that causes me skin to react very negatively.
My only other option is a bronzer. Bronzers come in many different forms: you can choose between a powder, spray, cream or oil.
Many bronzing lotions include a self tanning agent. Be aware of this fact! If you unknowingly apply one of these, you may wake up the next day with tanned calves, and not so tanned thighs. Also remember to wash your hands thoroughly after application.
A bronzing lotion will ideally give a slightly more bronzed and glowing look to your skin. Try to stick to a shade that is very close to your natural skin tone. You don’t want to look unnatural (or orange!) after application. Most bronzers contain some shimmer. I love it when my skin has a slight shimmer when the light hits it at an angle. You also find glittery bronzers, but these are not for me. Whatever your preference, try to get a sample of the product before you commit.
Great products to try are:
• AMC Face and Body Bronzer from Inglot (R329)
• Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil from The Body Shop (R199)
• Body Glow Red Carpet Kolour from Ofra Cosmetics (R495)
Here are some tips to get your bod looking perfect for that special event:
Exfoliate and remove all dead skin cells from all the areas where you will be applying the bronzer. Make sure to focus on areas like your elbows and knees. Bronzer will accentuate dry patches and can become very obvious.
Moisturise your skin very well. This will ensure that the bronzer glides onto your skin – making application smooth and easy.
Give the moisturizer time to really sink into your skin. Bronzer should be applied to dry skin.
Rub the bronzer into your skin covering all areas several times – you don’t want a streaky or blotchy application.
Apply a little bit more on the areas where the sun naturally hits like your shoulders and chest.
You can also give your cleavage a bit more oomph by applying a bit of bronzer between your breasts.
Make sure that your face and body matches.
Allow the bronzer to dry before dressing. Good quality bronzers should not transfer to your clothes if you give it enough time to dry. Make sure to test it though. You don’t want to ‘file’ the experience under ‘beauty disasters’.
Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly as you don’t want to leave any evidence behind.
Ta-da! You’re all set to show off your healthy, glowing skin. Nobody needs to know that you faked it with this beauty tip.
