Hairstyle – Whats with the Hair?

So hair is a woman’s crowning glory right? I used to think it was, like my hair always had to be perfect, every little strand in place. But more and more, hair is becoming more of an accessory to me. There are so many ways to change up a hairstyle today, clip-in extensions, weaves, chalking… all of that stuff. It kinda makes hair disposable, in the same way jewellery or clothes are- If you don’t like it, you can change it up… quickly.

Today’s post really focuses on ways to take your hair to the next level quickly and easily. This essentially includes hair pieces you can use for volume etc, changing your colour temporarily…quick, easy glam hair.

Okay, so I think, the most useful and fabulous hairstyle one can rock is a bun, now there are lots of ways to wear a bun. For a classic, elegant, look, a sleek, high bun or a slicked back chignon bun is always the way to go. For a more casual romantic look, a messy side bun works wonders. Now most of us don’t have enough hair on our head to hook up a full looking bun. While you can use a bun doughnut thingy that you would buy at a shop, you could always make your own.

Here’s how: Get a (clean!!) pair of socks, a pair of scissors and a needle and thread. Cut the bottom part of the socks off, (the part where the toes go). Then you start rolling up the socks so that you end up with a doughnut. Then you just sew the loose flaps of sock together to prevent the doughnut from unraveling. Then tie your pony tail as usual, slide the doughnut onto the loose hair sticking out of the ponytail, sort of like how you would place a tyre over a pole. Then just wrap the hair around the doughnut, making sure that all of the doughnut is covered. I find that it’s better to use sock colours that are close to your own hair colour. If you want the bun to be messy, simply take a hair brush and brush the bun, pulling out a few strands here and there… that’s all you have to do, quick and simple glam.

Another quick and easy hairstyle is a braid. If your hair isn’t thick or long enough to make a braid, simply get extra hair, it’s usually quite affordable and all you do is just braid it in together with your own hair.

And then we have my personal favourite, the faux ponytail…. Buy one of these life savers, make sure it matches your hair texture and colour then on days when you hair ain’t acting right, slick it back and clip on the ponytail. It really brings the words sleek, elegant and chic to mind. Clip-in bangs are also a thing now, I have never used them but I do know people who swear by them!

These are my personal favourites when it comes to hair (except my weave of course). But the really great thing about these variations is that they can work on any type of texture… not only Ethnic hair, but Caucasian or Indian hair as well.
So that’s my piece for this week… There’s not much to hair or your hairstyle!

Xoxo
