Lady Gaga wears a sexy and daring makeup look on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. The make-up look is definitely ‘Gaga’ but can be easily recreated and worn by little monsters on a night out. This step-by-step will help you recreate this look.
Recreate the look:
Step 1
Begin with a clean, moisturised face. Apply a primer on your face ensuring you have evenly covered your entire face – primer allows you to have a smooth canvas to work with and your foundation will also stay put and not fill in pores and fine lines. I recommend a good quality primer such as Smashbox Photo Finish Light, which is also great because it is oil free.
Step 2
Apply foundation evenly on your face with your fingers, and blend well so that you look matte and not cakey. Layer if necessary to create a smooth and even complexion. I recommend Revlon PhotoReady Makeup, as it will allow for an airbrushed look and the pigments in this foundation reflect light to give skin a lovely glow and giving even coverage.
Step 3
Dot some concealer on dark spots and under the eye to ensure a smooth and even look. Smashbox PHOTO OP Under Eye Brightener/ Illiminateur works well to give an illuminated look to your eyes, which is great if you’re being photographed.
Step 4
Apply some eye-shadow primer to your eyelids. I like to dot it with the brush and then smooth it out with my fingers all over the lids. This ensures your eye-makeup stays put and also gives you a smooth canvas on your eyelids to work on. Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer is great to use under all types of eye shadows and liners.
Step 5
Now comes the fun part! Using a pencil liner like Maybelline’s Master Drama Khol Liner – line the upper lash line and your tight-line (just under your top eyelashes). A thin, even line is all you need. Then using a liquid eyeliner you want to create a cat eye look that is precise and defined. Using a liquid liner pen instead of a brush with a pot will be easier and is also great for those who are new at using liquid liners. Maybelline’s Master Precise eyeliner works very well! Start by placing very small dots where you want your cat eye to end and also on the eyelid. To get an idea of what angle to put your cat eye, place a pen angled from the outer corner of your nose to the end of your eyebrow. Your cat eye look can follow that line. Then slowly with short strokes, connect your dots with thin, even lines with liquid eyeliner. This allows you to have a smooth line. Once you have connected the dots and have an outline, fill it with a more short strokes of liner till it is covered and you have the desired thickness on your lids. Build on each line if your cat eye needs to be wider. Gaga’s cover look is characterised by a bold cat eye makeup look.
Step 6
Once the eyeliner has dried completely – this shouldn’t take very long – apply your mascara evenly to catch every last lash. Use two coats to give long, defined lashes but not clumpy spider lashes. Revlon’s PhotoReady 3d volume mascara is great!
Step 7
Now that the eyes are done, brows only take a few minutes. With Gaga’s cover look she has very very light brows which were obviously lightened a bit. If you have light brows then simply put some powder on with an eyebrow brush and fill nicely. To avoid the extremes for recreating this look if you have darker brows, opt for lighter brows by using a brow powder or brow-fill pencil. First a few dots of foundation on your eyebrows will lighten them a bit. Brush this out a bit with a brow brush, then fill with a light coloured pencil and blend well with the brush. Since your eyes and lips will take centre stage, your brows need to ‘hide’ for this look. Revlon colourstay brow enhancer in a light colour will do the trick for lighter brows.
Step 8
Now you are almost done. Dot some foundation on your lips and smooth out. This is to help keep your lipstick put and gives it a nice smooth base. Using a lip-liner that is the same shade as your lipstick, carefully line your lips making sure you have steady lines. Now fill in your lips with the same liner – this helps ‘grab’ the lipstick. For this look I recommend Mac’s cherry lip pencil, it will allow you to blend nicely with your lipstick. Once you’ve filled your lips, blot them gently between a sheet of tissue paper. Now apply a darker shade of red lipstick, but only one sheer coat over your lips – Mac’s hang up works nicely, and blot again with tissue paper. This dark colour is just to give a warm, dark undertone to complement the bright red of the lip colour that will show which is your last application. Using your desired red, use a lip brush to colour your lips with the lipstick to give a precise and detailed finish on the red. Mac’s ruby woo is a fantastic shade.
Step 9
Lastly, with a powder brush, blot some powder (Rimmel stay matte powder) on your cheeks, nose (t-zone) and forehead for a matte finish and you are done! Completely makeup cover-ready and ‘Gaga-fied’!
