Waxing is a great method of hair removal to get away with a smooth skin for a prolonged period of time without razor cuts and nicks. However, there are peculiarities of waxing (especially if doing the procedure at home) you need to know to cut some costs for professional waxing. Here are some tips on at-home waxing.
Tip # 1
Opt for warm wax that you can melt with water bath as it is pretty cheap and convenient for at-home waxing. Choose the ones that contain natural oils as they great for skin and can be washed away with warm water. Though be careful because if such wax contacts with water it immediately loses its properties.
Tip # 2
Exfoliation and moisturizing are very important if you want to prevent ingrown hair. Take regular body exfoliator and gently exfoliate skin before and after waxing. Apply light lotion after that. Do not pick at ingrown hair as you may get the infection.
Tip # 3
It’s good to consider a hair inhibitor that will slower hair growth so you won’t have to wax too often.
Tip # 4
If your hair is too short you won’t be able to remove it as wax won’t catch it. If hair is too long, waxing will be painful. So ideal length lies between 1/4 inch and 3/4 inch.In first case you’ll have to wait till your hair grows longer. In the second case you can try trim hair with scissors.
Tip # 5
Do not wax the same spot or area more than two times, if you have sensitive skin one time is more than enough. If you wax more than two times in a row you can damage skin, besides it is very painful. If you spotted few stray hair after waxing just tweeze them.
Tip# 6
The wax will adhere better if you’ll apply a bit of baby powder to the spot you are going to wax as it will absorb the excess moisture as it destroys the wax’s properties.
Tip# 7
At-home waxing can be risky in terms of burning with hot wax. To avoid that test wax before using. Put a bit of wax on your wrist and make sure it’s a normal temperature. Some waxes such as Veet carry applicators with heat indicators. When the wax is too hot the indicator says “No”, which means it’s too hot to use. When the wax is normal temperature the indicator doesn’t show anything.
Tip# 8
They key to waxing success is to apply and pull in the right direction. Apply warm wax in the hair growth direction and pull against the hair growth direction. To avoid bruising hold your skin and pull the cloth strip close and parallel to the skin. Do not lift the cloth strip in the air.
Tip# 9
The thinner wax layer you apply the better it will work removing the wax with the hair. It also may be helpful to put a little pressure post-wax as it relives pain. After waxing put your palm on the waxed spot and press a bit.
Tip#10
Apply some baby or some other mild oil to the waxed parts to nourish and sooth the skin.
At-home waxing is great for cutting costs for professional waxing at salon. Follow our tips to avoid burns and other problems and you will have a smooth beautiful skin without much trouble all due to this pleasurable form of hair removal.
