• Never test foundation on your hand. Your foundation needs to match your face/neck, so try it on there. Yes, you may have to remove some of your existing foundation, but it will be worth the effort! Most cosmetic counters will have make-up wipes available for that purpose. Better yet, get a sample to take home.
• Double up with an SPF foundation, even if you have an SPF moisturiser. Rather safe than sorry and pigmentation is a killer to get rid of. Avoidance is the key
• Remember : Always blend your foundation downwards towards the hair-line.
Why?
We all have fine facial hair, and this way you are flattening those hairs instead
of raising them! Blend your foundation downwards towards your hair-line.
• Try to invest in a foundation brush, or use your fingers. Both these methods limit product absorption. A foundation brush is synthetic, so it doesn’t absorb a lot, and your fingers of course absorb none at all!
“ Finger tips are great for blending and applying foundation. The warmth of your skin is great for blending!” Bobbi Brown, May 2007 Style magazine.
• When applying liquid foundation, it is better to put a small dot of foundation on different areas of your face first. eg. forehead, nose, cheek, chin, etc.
Then all you need to do is blend all the dots downwards towards your chin and into your hair-line and you have perfect and complete coverage! It also eliminates wastage.
• Lastly, invest in a primer to use before you apply foundation. A foundation primer works a lot like a paint primer does. It prepares the canvas so you get a perfect and even application. The primer is see-through and often contains silicone, so it fills in pores and wrinkles for a smoother skin-tone. It also prevents your foundation from sitting in these lines and open pores. A lot of makeup artists reckon , “ to not prime, it’s a crime!” So get yourself a primer and bask in flawless and smoother skin. You deserve it!
