The Lip-Loving Glosses That Do It All

I recently came to the conclusion that beauty basics that ‘just do one thing’ are no longer an option. Like most of us, I’m too short on time and too budget-savvy not to invest in ‘the new

multi-taskers’ – moisturisers that contain sun protection and colour-correcting pigments; mascaras packed with lash lengtheners and conditioners, and lip-glosses that moisturise, protect and perfect.

Here’s my list of the pout perfecters currently at the top of their game…

Chanel Glossimer (R420, Chanel counters nationwide)

Features: An innovative texture that is long-wearing and ultra-nourishing.

Application: A doe-tip applicator with a sticky but intensely moisturising liquid that glides onto lips.

Durability: Even when the gloss fades, the lipstick pigment and little sparkles remain.

How to wear it: On its own for a hint of colour, or layer it over your favourite lipstick for deeper colour.

Maybelline Super Stay 24Hr (R134.95, pharmacies nationwide)

Features: This long-wearing gloss won’t crumble, cake or fade.

Application: The ‘micro-flex particle’ formula glides onto lips, while on the opposite end of the applicator, a balm conditions and moisturises.

Durability: With a 24 hour promise, this gloss lasts all day!

How to wear it: Strong pigments make this best for an intense high-gloss look.

Bourjois Sweet Kiss with 10hr Hydration (R139, pharmacies nationwide)

Features: Provides deep hydration and boosts radiance.

Application: A non-sticky, oil rich serum that glides onto the lips with the doe-foot applicator.

Durability: The hydration really does last for up to ten hours.

How to wear it: Save this one for the winter months when lips are more susceptible to dryness.

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche (R149.95, Clicks stores nationwide)

Features: Packed with Argan oil, Vitamin E and Omega 3, this is a nourishing lip saver and creamy gloss.

Application: Squeeze it directly onto the lips (farewell sticky fingers!).

Durability: Despite having no long-wearing properties, this gloss continues to moisturise your lips even after the colour and gloss has faded.

How to wear it: The subtle colour palette lends itself to everyday makeup looks.

Clinique Long Lasting Glosswear (R245, Clinique counters nationwide)

Features: Brilliant shine and an in-built SPF 15 for sun protection.

Application: A doe-foot applicator allows you to apply gloss directly onto the lips.

Durability: Not particularly long-wearing, you’ll need to apply this one frequently.

How to wear it: An easy-to-wear everyday gloss.
