Katy Perry Rocks Her Killer Queen Fragrance
HotFrom the moment I opened the package and the sweet scent of this fragrance touched my face, I was hypnotized. I love it so much that it has bumped my all-time favourite for many years into second place. For me, this scent epitomises what a woman is... sweet, funky, delicious, beautiful and strong. The scent brought back memories of a scent I have loved before, but adds a new spin on it. It is fresh and alluring; it makes me feel like a woman! The scent lasts quite a while on my skin and I feel like a queen on my grand parade while wearing it. I could easily own the throne with this emanating from me. The top notes are dark plum, wild berries and bergamot - they are such a great combination. If you close your eyes, you can smell each of these scents in just the right amounts. The heart notes are floral and comprise red velvet flower, rainbow plumeria and jasmine sambac - these are also a great combination and seeing as every woman is as delicate, beautiful and soft as a flower, these floral scents go a long way to bring out those characteristics. The base notes are cashmeran, patchouli heart and liquid praline - all of which provide that funk, playfulness and slightly rebellious traits that most of us women have lurking just beneath our beautiful skin. This is a winner in my books. I honestly feel that Katy Perry has done justice with this scent in that it reflects her style completely. The bottle is a red ombre gem shape and is so beautiful and unique. Again, it reflects the theme of being a queen on your throne. Go Katy Perry! This gorgeous scent is going on my Christmas wish list.

User reviews
I had the priviledge to sample this latest creation in the Killer Queen range and I was simply bowled over. Its new for Katy but its an incredible addition to the already fantastic killer queen collection.
The shape of the bottle is still the sample but the colour is pale pink. The fragrance spells fresh, spring, new life, simply floral. A beautiful flower that captures the essence of a new beginning, coming out into the world for the first time.
I simply loved it. I had to spray on a few drops on my wrist just to capture the beauty of killer queen. I think this fragrance is very different from the other two simply because its a different feel altpgether. Its very floral with gentle petals of violets, gardeniia, maybe even a little vanilla which reminds you of flowers in bloom.
It really lasts the whole day but, this is what I have come to expect from the Killer Queen range.
Well done Katy, this fragrance is what we have been waiting for in Spring
Perfect for a Queen indeed
Katy Rocks Always
This perfume was released and marketed as follow: " Killer Queen was described as a playful, sophisticated, powerful, edgy and delicious fragrance, that reflects the rebellious spirit of the singer" (Wikipedia) I do agree that it is a powerful and edgy scent. I would recommend testing this perfume at the store, maybe even more than once, before purchasing it.
Perfume Notes:
Top notes ~ wild berries, dark plum and bergamot
Heart notes ~ velvety red flower (Celosia), but there are also Sambac jasmine and rainbow plumeria.
Base notes ~ cashmere, patchouli and liquid praline
Its top notes of yummy wild berries, juicy dark plum and bergamot accords give it a delicious fruity scent. The main note of the heart is velvety red flower (Celosia), but Sambac jasmine and rainbow plumeria are also included there. The base contains cashmere, patchouli and liquid praline which give it that give it a touch of maturity in the overall scent. These all combine to produce a smell that is absolutely amazing, sweet but not sickeningly sweet. It reminds me of Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf which is a definite pro since it I one of my favorite fragrances.
Now back to the name, Katy Perry named her third fragrance Killer Queen after the song written by Freddie Mercury also called killer queen which describes a powerful women who can captivate a room when she walks in. continuing in the theme of royalty the bottle’s shape is Inspired by a Queen’s scepter, the jewel-shaped bottle portrays sexy sophistication and luxury topped with royal gold crown cap showcasing Katy Perry’s crest. The only negative thing about this fragrance is its staying power. It lasts for plus/minus 5 hours which is alright if you are planning on carrying the gorgeous but big bottle everywhere you go for touch ups for when the smell fades. Finally I would thank BeautyBulletin for this incredible opportunity.
The packaging design and bottler are beautiful and capture the essence of royalty quite well. It reminded me of a red cape I often see royalty wearing in Disney films i.e. Snow White (it reinforces the idea that the fragrance is fit for a queen). The bottle has a diamond shape ; it made me think of the crowned jewels. The marketing and design team clearly did their research which assures me that If I buy the fragrance I would be buying a quality product. It really is a charmingly playful scent for charming and playful ladies.
The fragrance is available at selected outlets such as Clicks, Dis-Chem,Edgars Foschini and Miladys. As far as I know there is a special launch offer for a gift set at Edgars.
Well I was, I was so ecstatic to be chosen as part of the Killer Queen review club. I received a sample size and I fell in love with the scent I had to get the full size fragrance. Which by the way is not expensive at all. The fragrance retails at around R375 for a 30ml.
This is the 3rd fragrance from Katy Perry and she has gone from feline to royalty with this remarkable scent. She chose the name of the scent Killer Queen because of the song sung by the great band Queen called "Killer Queen".
The most significant notes include wild berries, dark plum and bergamot accords. The main note of the heart is velvety red flower (Celosia), but there are also Sambac jasmine and rainbow plumeria. The base contains cashmere, patchouli and liquid praline.
The bottle is unique like herself and shaped like a red ruby. It also and comes in its own golden pedestal as the bottle does not have a flat base to stand on its own. The bottle can also be seen as part of the royal scepter that Katy carries around in the videos. The fragrance is available as 15, 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum with body lotion and shower gel.
I love this perfume and I definitely think you should give it a try!
The playful but yet confident smell.

These are the famous words of the song Killer Queen sung and performed by the Legendary QUEEN!!!
Katy Perry introduces her third perfume- a regal scent with an intoxicating and charmingly playful mix of notes fit for royalty! This time, her perfume has teamed up with power brand Coty and was named after QUEEN’s hit song.
This perfume was meant to be strong, powerful, regal; something that captivates an audience! Top notes include wild berries, dark plum and bergamot accords. The main note of the heart is velvety red flower (Celosia), but there are also Sambac jasmine and rainbow plumeria. The base contains cashmere, patchouli and liquid praline.
The bottle is simply amazing!!! Shaped like a red ruby and comes in its own golden pedestal. From the lid to the tip, the bottle oozes confidence and regality. The perfume is a beautiful golden hued rich red that illuminates with golden hues from every angle, almost like it alight. The fragrance is available as 15, 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
On application, the sweet scent is emitted, radiating through the surrounding areas. At first, the scent is sickly and an annoyance but it soon dissipates into a sweet and playful bouquet of florals. I personally think a crisper, clean and much refined flower would’ve brought in all the other sweet scents and would’ve given the scent a more complete aroma.
After a mere 30min I could no longer smell the perfume at all and was rather disappointed as this scent does not come cheap at all! I have to say that the bottle leaves a grandeur impression than the perfume scent itself.
I am a huge, major fan of queen and have listened to their song Killer Queen whilst growing up, when I saw the ad for Katy’s perfume I was so curious and intrigued as to what the scent could be as the lyrics to the song had my impression booked. I was expecting something more sophisticated and demure but demanding and sexual all at the same time. I imagined a woman draped in silk with a glorious crown on her long shiny tresses sitting on her throne like Sharon Stone style ala-basic instinct daring to look at a room of men with intent. Instead I get a ‘pop’ queens rendition of an all time classic. Although Katy’s third try at perfume, I would caution that she still has some growing up to do. The scent is quiet im-mature and doesn’t really deserve the title of Killer Queen, something be-fitting her like Pop Queen would be far more appropriate.
The history of the fragrance:
Pop star Katy Perry launches her third fragrance and the first one done in cooperation with Coty. The scent is called Killer Queen by the song written by Freddie Mercury, and apparently it is totally different from its two predecessors. “Killer Queen has been in my vocabulary since I was 15, because of the song ‘Killer Queen’ by Queen,” said Perry to wwd. “Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in. I named my company Killer Queen after those lyrics. I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted.” Announced as a playful, sophisticated, powerful, edgy and delicious fragrance, it reflects the rebellious spirit of the singer. Its creation is signed by Laurent Le Guernec of IFF. The tag line is “own the throne”, and the scent is supposed to be powerful, edgy and sophisticated.
The bottle
The bottle is shaped like a red ruby and comes in its own golden pedestal. The fragrance is available as 15, 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum with body lotion and shower gel. The best feature of all katy’s fragrances is the beautifully designed bottles which I really enjoy. This one in particular with the ruby shape and gold pedestal really sums up royalty.
The scent
Top notes include wild berries, dark plum and bergamot accords.
Main note of the heart is velvety red flower (Celosia), but there are also Sambac jasmine and rainbow plumeria.
The base contains cashmere, patchouli and liquid praline.
While reading it it sounds like a really amazing combination with a lot of favourite notes which sums up it is in the category of a fruitchouli. But the scent it’s self didn’t really wow me. A lot of people so it smells exactly like Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb. That pretty much sums up Killer Queen: sweet fruit + a load of caramelized sugar + some very clean patchouli to darken things up.
Lasting power
The major downside is the lasting power which I find with all Coty fragrances I have tried, which is on the lower end for a floriental Eau de Parfum. After a couple hours, it’s just a sort of wan darkish musky thing which I don’t really like (think after scent of burnt plastic with a hint of musk).
Overall
I would maybe purchase this as an ornament for the bottle but I wouldn’t wear it
The first time I used it I thought that the smell was to strong but after an hour it settled nicely and the smell was amazing. Every person that walked passed me, asked what It was and could not stop complementing how good it smelled on me.
I have to complement her on an amazing perfume, my Christmas wish just got longer!!!!!
Fragrance doesn’t last ( nor do most celeb ones these days ) but a small reapplication during the day works and you don’t have to add a ton nor very often. Its quite sweet but mixes in with your natural oils and I ended up liking it more than I thought.
Great Summer fragrance !
One thing I do worry about is the bottle - its is beautiful but I worry it will be something that will just roll off my shelf. It might have a stand, I havent seen the actual full product, but if it doesn it is a little anoying and I would worry it would break.
Love the advert, fun and bold...very Katy Perry
The perfume contains strong top notes of Dark Plum, Bergamot and Wild Berry with base notes of Liquid Praline, Casmeran and Natural Patchouli. The heart notes are Red Velvet Flower, Rainbow Plumeria and Natural Jasmin Sambac. On its initial spray the dark plum and wild berry notes come through very strong at first but fades out as the scent turns into the sweet red velvet flower scent.
I have to admit that I am not a fan of this perfume at all. The scent is quite musky, deep and dark at first but fades into a very overbearing sweet scent. It reminds me of cheap perfume that they sell at pharmacy stores. It smells like something from my grandma's toiletry bag, musky yet sweet. With many celebrity fragrances out there, this one is as generic as the rest. There is nothing that sets this scent apart. It definitely smells similar to Lady Gaga's Fame fragrance but has a darker undertone. I won't be rushing out to buy it.
Thumbs down from me!
It is too strong and sweet.
I was on my way to a work meeting and decided to pick up my BB royal review product. I was overjoyed to find out that it was a fragrance when I opened it in the car, as I consider myself quite a fragrance connoisseur. So without thinking, I excitedly whipped it out it's wrapping and took a quick spray...and the first thought that came into my head as the invisible spritz particles hit my nose was "Wrong idea ash!" A confined space and Katy Perry's new spray do not mix. This was because I thought I could only possibly favor One type of fragrance. A very specific mix of long lasting, barely noticeable yet fresh, non-sweet fragrance. With that checklist in mind, the initial fruitiness of this perfume was too much for me at that moment.
So I got out the car, went to my meeting...and in that hour something magical happened! I got back in my car to realize the initially overpowering sweetness of Killer Queen had transformed into a beautifully soft, pleasant, happy scent which I could not get enough of!
Needless to say I have been using it ever since! Now my Guess, Issey, DKNY, Bulgari, Valentina's (the list goes on) can't compare! My usual routine of using a new fragrance each day to match my mood has been erased because the choice is no longer necessary. I am so glad I got the opportunity to test this Royal product before it hit the shelves! I'm definitely going to try my best to use it sparingly but I'm pretty sure I know what my next fragrance purchase is going to be :) :) who knew celebs could make awesome scents too?!
I do give it four stars though, even though I did not like it as I think it will be a popular fragrance amongst the ladies.
During the day, it faded into the middle notes which smelt a lot like berries. The end note lasted until the next morning and I can say I definitely feel the liquid praline coming through. Waking up in the morning smelling like I bathed in a bottle of delicious is certainly something I could get used to!
After wearing it a few times, I became used to the top note to the point that I now love it! Sephora describes it as a 'floriental' scent and in my opinion, it fits the description perfectly. It's a delicious scent that earned me numerous compliments. It makes me feel confident, playful and a lot like a killer queen, for sure! ;)
I was so attracted to the colours of the packaging... the red, gold and black... it definitely makes you think of royalty.
The first time I sprayed the perfume, I was a bit overwhelmed. The scent is extremely sweet and overpowering at first. My boyfriend wasn't too impressed either.
After a little while, the smell started to fade and we both agreed that it smelt A LOT better.
I found that even though it was overwhelming at first, then smelt amazing after awhile, it faded very quickly. Within about 4 hours the smell was almost completely gone.
I don't know if I'd purchase this perfume due to the scent not lasting long but I think this is going to be a hit with many fans! xxx
A fragrance of sweet, strong and flowery possession, Katy Perry's new perfume will leave a women feeling utterly most feminine, while keeping her scent refreshing - as if she were abounded in dozens of perfect flowers. This fragrance, as the name suggests, is made for an independent Killer Queen, which I believe any deserving female can be! It is effective and one of the best celebrity fragrances in existence that does not smell like a room/ toilet freshener.
This time Katy Perry certainly showed her ROAR and established the making of a unique, fun and loving spray!
Pop Star Katy Perry has launched her third fragrance Killer Queen. Katy who has been inspired by the song Killer Queen by Freddie Mercury to be the kind of woman that is strong, powerful and capture everyones hearts.
Killer Queen is an intoxicating floral with a hint of sweet scent that is fit for you royals. The ruby shaped bottle was designed to represent sophistication and luxury. While the gold crown cap captures Katy Perry's essence.
Some notes in the captivating scent include wild berries, dark plum, jasmine and cashmere to name a few.
The scent is bold but without that musky smell of the flower to it.
The bottle is unique and gives you the feeling of having a high end expensive perfume without the high end price attached to it. But it cannot stand on it's own though. The scent starts out like a floral scent with a hint of sweetness but smells darker later on. The scent in my opinion is better worn in the evening.
Killer Queen is worth exploring, so ladies when you're wearing your scent OWN THE THRONE!!!
I fell in love with this fragrance the second I got a whiff of it. And that love deepened when it touched my skin. It smells so edible, and I have received so many compliments wearing it that it makes me feel like a queen :) Royal indeed!
There was so much excitement about what the Royal Secret would be, and to be honest, when I opened my little envelope up and saw it was only a small fragrance tester, I was slightly disappointed. But that literally only lasted a few seconds, because as soon as I smelled the sample, I was completely won over.
I had been hunting for a new fragrance for a few months now because my previous one was finished and my boyfriend had told me it wasn't his favourite. So getting the chance to review this has been amazing because I have found my new scent.
Top Notes: Dark Plum, Wild Berry, Bergamot
Middle Notes: Natural Jasmine Sambac, Rainbow Plumeria, Red Velvet Flower
Base Notes: Cashmeran, Natural Patchouli Heart, Liquid Praline
It is sweet, but in a very delicious, yummy kind of way. Not too overpowering and not sickening. I was complimented while grocery shopping the day I got my sample.
The Jewel shaped bottle is fancy and original.
It lasts long, I could smell it on my skin hours after applying it, which is very important to me.
I am still trying to discover how much it is, but I am assuming it will be relatively the same price as Katy Perry's other fragrances. Red Square in Rosebank didn't have stock so I haven't been able to price it yet or buy a full bottle. I am hoping my sample lasts until I find one!
Normally I don't like fragrances from celebrities, but this one has definitely won me over.
I do feel royal while wearing it, however I think it's more a day scent than a night scent :) Oh, and boyfriend likes it too :)
First off, the image of the perfume bottle really caught my eye. The shape of the bottle makes me think of a magic potion bottle, however it is said to represent a red ruby which plays well into the royalty theme in an almost fairy tale like way. The perfume itself opens with top notes of Dark Plum, Wild Berry and Bergamot. This gives it a deep, dark sugar kind of scent that is heavenly. The heart of the perfume is Red Velvet Flower, Rainbow Plumera and Natural Jasmine Sambac that balances the sweet fruity smells with a delightful floral tone. The base notes are Casheran, Natural Patchouli Heart and Liquid Praline.
This perfume is perfect for Autumn evenings which is unfortunate timing for South Africa’s season, however it wouldn’t stop me from wearing it now. I also feel that this perfume is more suited for ladies in their 20s and 30s, which I personally love. Celebrity fragrances are usually created for the teen market and not for older markets.
I have been wearing the perfume for about a week now and find that it lasts relatively well. I am personally very happy that it lasts well throughout the day and by the evening it is hardly noticeable. If you want something that lasts well over 12 hours then this won’t impress you all that much.
This perfume strikes a beautiful balance between fruity, sweet and earthy. It is sophisticated and feminine. It is definitely a perfume I would consider purchasing a bottle of!
I absolutely fell in love with the ad campain before I had even tried out the perfume.
After testing out the product, I've come to realise that this fragrance is definitely in my top 3 favourites. It includes notes of Dark Plum, Wild Berry, Bergamot, Red Velvet Flower and Jasmine Sambac. The fruity and and floral notes make this fragrance extremely lusciously feminine whislst the Patchouli Heart and Cashmere adds notes of luxurious, deep, sophistication - A fragrance fir for royalty.
I'm sure it must have been some what of a mental thing afer watching the fragrance commercial, but after trying out Killer Queen, I felt extremely confident! I envisioned myself, bejeweled crown on head, "owning my throne". I love this fragrance because it's girly and playful but not overwhelmingly sweet. I particularly adore the regal looking, ruby shaped bottle that it comes in. Who says rubys are only meant for your jewellery box?
“When I was creating Killer Queen, I was really inspired by the idea of a strong, confident woman in power and that is exactly what I hoped to put into this fragrance, something that brings out the power inside of you.” - Katy Perry
I think that Katy Perry definitely materialised her dream of what Killer Queen should be. If you're looking for a sensory confidence boost, and want to smell as beautiful as you look all you need is a few spritzes of Killer Queen by Katy Perry.
The fragrance contains top notes of wild berries, dark plum and bergamot accords. The main notes consist of velvety red flower (Celosia), Sambac jasmine and rainbow plumeria. And the base notes are cashmere, patchouli and liquid praline.
The full sized bottle is in the shape of a red and gold jewel inspired by a queen's sceptre, topped with a gold crown. It is a spicy scent but not so fruity or floral which are personal fragrance favourites of mine. It isn't as light as a, for example, Nude by Rihanna or as floral as, again for example, Jimmy Choo FLASH. I find it to be more of a wintery scent though or, for summer, a night time scent.
It is a rich scent. I love the smell. It's pleasant. It's a powerful smell without being over-bearing or overwhelming. However, I find that it's power wouldn't stand out in a room especially if you are in a room full of people wearing other fragrances. I don't find that Killer Queen strikes out and stands bold amongst the other fragrances which is a disappointment seeing as the inspiration behind it comes from a song that speaks of a woman who lights up the room when she walks in.
Overall, I was pleased with the product. I absolutely love how it smells. I would be a bit worried about how it would be stored since the bottom of the packaging is pointed...hmmmm. The notes used are certainly fit for royalty, I would have to say. Beautiful scent. But probably for a rebellious royal that doesn't quite follow protocol (think the female equivalent of Prince Harry...lol)
I have to start off by saying that I'm a little disappointed in this fragrance. I'm not a huge fan of celebrity fragrances as I feel that 85% of them smell generic - as in too similar to other signature scents and lacks originality. Then you get the remaining 15% which oozes originality and really hits the nail on the head. This particular fragrance from Katy Perry, sadly falls short and in my opinion slots into the 85% of uninteresting fragrances.
I don't hate it, and I'm not gushing over it either. It would be fair to say that I'm pretty neutral. I'm a floral kind of girl,
but I love to experiment as well, just too see what else is out there.
First impressions...
As soon as I received my parcel, I ripped it open and was totally transfixed by the color scheme of Red and gold, but it's the picture of the perfume bottle that really got my attention.. To put it simply, It is by far the most gorgeous perfume bottle that I have every seen. Its unique, eye catching and reeks elegance and sophistication. Kudos to Killer Queen for nailing the packaging. Its attention grabbing and it will definitely stand out on the shelf! It's a great collector items as well, so If i ever bought this fragrance, it would purely be for the bottle as it is some serious eye candy...
Now for the fragrance itself.. sigh...
I find it to be extremely strong on application and overwhelmingly sweet. I was like whoa... I had the urge to wash it off... but decided against it for the pure benefit of giving a thorough and honest review. After about 15-20 mins, the scent mellowed down and became more bearable, still sickly sweet but not as horrible as before. After about another hour or so, It became ok, almost pleasant. I found that it had an average wear of about 2-3hours, which in my opinion isn't good given that it's an EDP.
I think that this is more of a girly scent aimed at the younger target market. I definitely can't picture a matured woman wearing this.
This smells to similar to other scents, and sadly it's forgettable in my opinion. It's not something I would buy or wear again, way to over powering for my senses.
Overall, a very average scent in a very unique bottle.
Please note that this review is based purely on my experience and my personal thoughts and feelings, I know some ladies will love this fragrance, so no offense is meant to be given to those who do love it :)
Thank you to BB for allowing me to be part of the Royal Review Club
xoxox
It smells fabulous, nice and strong but not overpowering so a little goes a long way and it lasts the whole day ??????
A definite must try for all ladies. It will make the perfect gift for any woman
It gave me a headache when I first spritzed it.
I am not a fan.
I do however, love the look of the bottle but I am definitely not going out to buy the thing for the empty bottle.
I would rather stick to cheaper but better smelling stuff like Serendipity...it lasts longer too.
